The focus of a headshot is well.... your head, but more specifically your eyes however, what you choose to wear is pretty high up there.
But there are still people out there who think "yeah I’ll just grabbed whatever is clean".
Its easily done. You've got the shoot booked, you're already a bit nervous about it and clothes feel like the smallest thing on the list. But they're doing more work than you'd think.
Casting directors are going through hundreds of headshots. They're not sitting there patiently imagining you in the part, they've got about four seconds to look and about seven billion other things to do that morning. So the faster your photo tells them what you are, the better you do.
Which really just means thinking about the roles you actually get seen for and then dressing like that person. Cheeky teenager, lean into it. A busy City of London lawyer, show me that crisp white shirt. The aim is to present the version of you who perfectly fits that role archetype.
