A few things that made Lesley's warehouse shoot work, in case you're curious about how these things come together:

The venue! We shot at a disused belt factory in North London. It has this rusty metal wall plus a bunch more options, a vintage light that weighs more than I do, and enough space to build out a whole rockstar set with a telly and a stack of busted speakers. Some shoot themes need a suitable location, and this was one of them.

A playlist. Big posing with no music is super weird. Lesley is your girl if you need a good one though!

Wardrobe that isn't half-hearted. One piece of each look needs to say something. Ideally, it will say it quite loudly.

The full post is on the blog now, including a few thoughts on non-traditional bo***ir styling and also how we can use wardrobe to empower rather than expose.

A bo***ir shoot doesn't mean you need to buying a bunch of new stuff you'll never wear again. Preparing for your session can be easy and practical (but don't let me talk you out of it if you have your eye on something special!).

For most clients I suggest three to four looks. On the blog, I've listed some tried and tested favs; a basics look (often things you already own), a lingerie look that is easy and affordable, a bathtub look, and a wild card slot for something outside your comfort zone or something a bit non-traditional.

For many people, M&S and ASOS could get you 90% of the way there. Lots of client pick up just one or two new pieces. People are very split on footwear though - it's either a perfect excuse for a showstopper pair of Louboutins, or a £9 Primark special. Both work great.

There's a full breakdown of what I recommended for real client M on the blog, with shoppable links if you happen to have a similar style.

A reminder that the bo***ir dress code is very flexible.

Lesley's shoot at a North London warehouse covered a 90s grunge look, a pink faux fur jacket, a full rockstar set with vintage props, and a fringe jacket. And, this bodysuit with teeth. There was lingerie involved, but it wasn't really the point.

The point was showing up as herself, and walking away with images that look incredible, but still like her.

Full shoot is on the blog if you want to see it.

Story time: I once had a client turn arrive to her shoot with literally nothing to wear.

She had pre-packed a bag the night before, but it somehow ended up in the wrong car, and by the time she realised it was far too late to go back. She arrived totally frazzled and nearly in tears.

BUT don't worry...this one has a happy ending.

I went into full Tim Gunn mode.

MAKE IT WORK.

We used the what she was wearing under her clothing that day, my oversized jumper, a trench coat borrowed from the makeup artist, and some bed sheets and curtains for a faux n**e look.

It was a knockout shoot.

Wardrobe does matter, but it's just one of many elements that go into a successful shoot. We also have fab hair and makeup, lots of pose coaching, great lighting, posing, the location, etc. If any one thing ends up a disaster, we can almost always use the rest to save the day.

There's a new post on my blog where I show examples of how I planned wardrobe for a particular client if you'd like to see it. Some of my favourite options are super easy and require almost nothing.

One of the things I love about this job is when someone turns up and does not apologise for who they are.

Lesley came to her warehouse shoot with a clear sense of her style. Alternative leaning, an impeccable attitude, and a pink faux fur jacket she produced from her bag like it was the most normal thing in the world. (It was perfect, for the record.)

We shot at a disused belt factory in North London, which is a venue I keep coming back to because the light and the textures are so good and varied. Bare plaster walls to rusty metal, vintage props and chairs and chesterfield sofas, and a light that weighs approximately one thousand pounds but creates the most incredible throwback Hollywood feel.

What I noticed in about this shoot in retrospect is that almost none of it is traditional lingerie. A band tee. A plaid shirt. A fringe jacket. A bodysuit with what I think is an angry fox on it.

Bo***ir is not a dress code. It's a vibe, an energy. And yours can look exactly like you.

Full shoot is on the blog now. You can be thinking about what your signature look might be.

"I have no idea what to wear. I don't even know where to start."

My upcoming client M has recently been through a horrific medical scare, and as a result her body (and mindset) has changed a lot in a short amount of time. She's starting from scratch with her wardrobe, doesn't really own much that fits her now, and felt a little overwhelmed at the thought of having to plan looks for a whole shoot.

So we started with a mood board. Her taste is understated and elegant, so I knew we'd need to avoid anything too fussy or over the top. From there, I put together a full shopping guide: specific links in her sizes, sister sizing options when her size wasn't available, layering ideas she could pull from her own wardrobe, and simple add ons that would easily double the variety.

I outlined four overall looks plus some variations; simple basics, a lingerie look with texture and detail; a bathtub set which needs basically no wardrobe at all, and a wild card slot.

Wardrobe planning can feel overwhelming, that's a normal reaction, but with a plan it's honestly nothing to stress about. I can help.

I've posted the whole thing on my blog, including the actual links I sent her. It's unlikely this will be the perfect plan for YOU, but hopefully it will help you see how we can make this part of the process easy.

Do you have any wardrobe questions? Feel free to put them below.

Also, would anyone be interested in a sort of personal shopping service for shoots? I'm wondering if that's worth exploring.

A quick note on wardrobe, because I know it can feel stressful to get a plan together.

For Amy's shoot we had two looks: a black bodysuit, and a corset with elbow-length gloves, stockings, and a faux diamond choker. Oh and some black heels. That's the entire list.

No shopping spree. No designer labels. The diamonds were not real, unless Amy secretly won the lottery lately and is keeping that very quiet.

Here is what I know after years of doing this: the only thing that actually matters is the fit. Once the lights are on and we're shooting, you genuinely cannot tell if the heels are Prada or New Look. If it matters, it only matters to you.

The full shoot, plus a little breakdown of the studio setup and why we went almost entirely black and white, is on the blog now.

It's easy to think a great bo***ir shoot needs a lot of stuff. The velvet chaise, the moody hotel room, the showstopper lingerie, etc.

But IT DOESN'T.

This shoot with Amy was so simple. Just a plain white box studio and a couple of lights. Two outfits - a black bodysuit and a corset. That's it.

And yet, the images came alive. Bo***ir photography, when it's really done well, is about the person. Not the props.

No fancy hotel suite. No natural light. No wow location with designer wallpaper and a cat on a velvet cushion.

Just Amy, a plain white studio, and some lights big enough to make me nervous.

I've been a natural light lover for most of my career. Learned in the field (literally, an actual farmer's field). I've spent years hunting hotel rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows and the best possible locations. So asking myself to hire a white box, close the blackout curtains, and work exclusively with studio flash is ugh.

BUT we don't grow in our comfort zones do we? I'm committed to these slightly humbling studio rentals as part of my location snobbery rehabilitation program.

What this shoot reminded me is that the magic in a bo***ir session is never really about the location anyway. The location is a lovely bonus, but what actually matters is the light, the direction, the plan, and the person in front of the camera.

Amy is such a fantastic person to work with on a project like this. She was up for everything, well prepared, and the results are some of my favourites in studio so far.

"She doth teach the torches to burn bright." - Romeo & Juliet

A couples session with me works very similarly to a solo shoot, except there's two of you. Same consultation, same professional hair and makeup, same editorial approach, same level of coaching. Mood board and wardrobe help too, and on set it's fun and light-hearted, nothing weird except an excessive amount of me asking you to arch your back (sorry not sorry).

Whether it's an anniversary, a birthday, an engagement, or a random Tuesday, you don't really need a reason tbh. You just need to want to see yourselves this way - to see each other this way.

I'm finding it's actually a really powerful experience for men, so he'll probably thank you for talking him into it.

Link in bio for the full shoot.
