And just like that, the world loses yet another Queen. With officially retiring their last Boeing 747 from service this week, it is important for us to take time and reflect on the incredible work this aircraft did for not just Qantas, but for Australia and the Australian people.
Connecting us Aussies to the world like never before, this aircraft was a significant milestone in long haul airline travel that meant Australia became even closer to the rest of the world, and the rest of the world closer to us.
In her time at , she has seen many sunrises and sunsets above the clouds, carrying millions of us across the world, and her vital role as our true Aussie Queen will be solemnly treasured for many many years into the future. It’s a bittersweet moment to think that we will no longer hear the scream of her engines, but a decision that has been a long time coming.
Thank you your service to this country Longreach, you will be greatly missed.
(Sadly in the many years of plane photography, I only ever caught one QF Queen, VH-OEF blasting out of Melbourne bound for Los Angeles as QF95)
