The morning after the night before… Our Phoebe turned the ripe old age of 6 on Friday so here’s my yearly appreciation post to her. Taken on Saturday morning after she’d had one too many waters and face bites with her pals the night before. You can’t read this Phoebe but we love you very much, even if you are a bigger diva than the woman you apparently share a birthday with… Beyoncé.

Christmas in August… well I never. Had a lovely afternoon Lantana making a hot sunny summers day look like a cosy Christmas feast. Think we managed it?

One magical midsummer weekend in Sweden 🇸🇪📸

Thankfully I was a guest at this joyous occasion so didn’t take too many snaps but I feel the love is palpable

Not sure if I’ve mentioned this, but I just got a new camera. Here’s one of the main reasons why 🦆📹

New camera day. This one’s a big one! It’s hard not to feel like every one of these is a bit of a level up, but this one feels extra special. It’s the first camera I’ve ever bought outright without any financing (or dare I admit, help from parents in the early days). It’s also the first one where I’ve chosen the model as a kind of direct career choice rather than just looking for the flashiest specs.

I actually started looking at new cameras about a year and a half ago and was initially focusing on purely cinema cameras, as I felt like video was what I needed to improve most on. However, most of these don’t take stills and if there’s anything recent months have tought me it’s that a) I still really love taking photos and b) hybrid is what the world wants now and I’m actually really lucky to be able to do that reasonably well.

So rather than trying to be something I’m not and getting a cinema camera I really didn’t need, I’m leaning into how I actually shoot and nabbing what I believe after a HUGE chunk of research is one of the best hybrid cameras out there right now. Really excited to start shooting with it and seeing what it can do.

Anyway, self involved rant over, now look how darned pretty it is!

Just a couple of doggo pals hanging out. You gotta scroll to the last one… those eyes 😍

If only all that time skating had been spent filming….

PSYCH: I wouldn’t change a thing!

Great manual

Ever wondered how you film someone looking in a mirror? Well… you don’t.

On a video shoot last month for Eight Sleep we needed these shots of a couple getting ready for bed, so I set up the fake mirror (aka my camera) and a bit of nice lighting including a subtle warm kicker to set it off and went nuts.

Check out the BTS. Pretty simple setup but worked a charm!

The Setup vs The Shot - If you’re wondering what a restaurant video (like the one I posted yesterday) looks like in real life, now you know!I just went with one soft light on this and tried to position myself so that it was a backlight wherever possible. This coupled with a 1/8 black mist filter gave everything a nice glow that (I think) gave it a nice high end look.

Let me know what you think!

Posting in Landscape! Whatever next?! I had a content creation shoot at a month or so ago and to my suprise/glee we actually needed to get some landscape shots for once.

In a world of solely vertical video I felt like I couldn’t let this opportunity pass, so even though we were only shooting short clips for social I decided to flex my ‘brand film’ videography muscles and create a short... well, brand film out of the clips.

Was really happy with some of the shots and lighting on this shoot so I’m chuffed with the results and how it weirdly came together to look like I’d shot it intentionally. Check it out, if the algorithm shows you a landscape video…
