A few frames of Daniel Bartholomew Poyser from my time photographing him at Grange Festival earlier this summer with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra.

Daniel has that rare quality that makes him incredibly rewarding to photograph — completely present in the moment, expressive and full of character.

This Tuesday, he appears with the BBC Concert Orchestra for Bond and Beyond at the BBC Proms.

Different stage, different repertoire, but no doubt the same extraordinary energy.

Wishing Daniel a fantastic Prom — I’ll be following from the sidelines this time. 🎶

How do you photograph a creative practice?

A recent commission for STYLUS ARCHITECTS allowed me to photograph the people behind the practice within the spaces they have helped create.

Rather than simply using the architecture as a backdrop, I wanted the surroundings to tell us something about the people themselves — their work, their ideas and the creative world they inhabit.

It's an approach I particularly enjoy: making portraits where the relationship between person and place becomes part of the story.
