Keeping with my last post’s “first time working with…” theme, Veneer is my first collaboration with and director Louis Neethling. Written by Jean St. Clair and produced by Mutt and Jeff Pictures. I was especially pleased with how this came out considering we had set out to bring a hint of Wes Anderson’s quirky style to the visuals.

I was also excited to get to use the Jackson Woodburn Revolver motion control system - piloted by the incredibly talented and knowledgable Ben Bannister - to achieve shots where we had to double and multiply Jean as she wrestles with her physical and psychological issues. The Revolver system gave us more depth than simply settling for locked off “split-screen” shots.

Poles is my first proper collaboration with - having talked about working together for many years - and my first return to shooting on film, 16mm  - in more than a decade! It is also my first project shooting with the wonderful and which was fantastic!
