Favourite Stations - Liverpool Street
Meet Maud, an artist whose favourite London station is Liverpool Street.
The station opened in 1874, and is one of the busiest in the city, but for Maud it’s much more than a place people pass through. It’s a place filled with art, history and everyday human connection.
As we walked around the station, Maud pointed out the public artworks that make Liverpool Street unique. From colourful interactive installations to huge steel sculptures and memorials honouring the Kindertransport refugees, every piece adds another layer to the space. For Maud, public art transforms the daily commute and helps people feel connected to the places they use every day.
Maud also shared the story behind her handmade mosaic roundels, inspired by classic station signs and now displayed at stations across London and beyond. Each one is individually crafted and designed to become part of the community around it.
What Maud loves most about Liverpool Street is the energy. Surrounded by both historic buildings and modern skyscrapers, the station captures the mix that makes London special. It’s a place where people meet, say goodbye, rush somewhere important or simply stop to watch the city move around them.
