The theme for the latter part of 2022 seems to be that I only remember to take my camera out if I’m going to the zoo. I upgraded to a membership pass today and had to be on the other side of a camera, and now own a season pass with the derpiest ID photo possibly ever 🤦🏻‍♀️ This gorgeous creature is definitely more photogenic than I’ll ever be. The gorillas has mysteriously gone totally AWOL when I went to the zoo a couple of weeks ago, so it was really awesome that I got to see them today 🥰

Trying to write a caption in a crowded, noisy coffee shop is more of a challenge than I anticipated. There’s a woman loudly talking about how she has 34 grandchildren. That’s gotta be expensive at Christmas, right? 😱 Anyways, I keep not posting because I haven’t taken any new photographs, neglecting them fact that I have an archive of about 50,000 photos. I could probably post daily for the next couple of hundred years 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mondays are notoriously mundane, so I thought I should probably try to do something a little exciting this morning. It seemed too obvious to go skydiving or bungee jumping or whatever adrenaline ju**ie kids are into these days. So I decided to make a post on here, because for the first time in a long time, I actually took a camera out of my house and photographed people rather than pretty flowers. I know what you’re thinking. “Kate, if you reckon that making an Instagram post is an exciting thing to do, then you need to get out more.” Truth is, I have been out. A lot. The photography has just kinda became secondary. Even just taking a few random street shots at the flower market yesterday though, I felt a little part of pre-2020 me come back, and it felt nice.

I didn’t expect to love Amsterdam as much as I do. Aside from nearly getting run over by bicycles all the time.
I took the Fujifilm X-E4 on my trip, which is an awesome little camera. This was not shot on it, because I left it in the hotel safe this evening out of laziness 😏 This was shot on the iPhone 13 mini, and I’m sharing it because I really wanted to use the ham pun 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m still struggling to get my photography groove back after the whole lockdown thing. Still. But all photography counts, right? Cutesy . Little Polaroid Go moments. Pokémon Go snapshots (bonus points for a shiny? Maybe this one doesn’t count). I got disproportionately excited yesterday when I saw a guy shooting a Pen-F, because apparently pretty MFTs awaken my inner geek. So the passion is definitely still there, which is reassuring. I have trips to Brighton and Amsterdam lined up over the next couple of months during which I plan to take in the vicinity of a million photographs with my much-loved but somewhat neglected XT4. In the meantime, I should probably start by just neglecting the XT4 less 😏

.pix and I wandered Camden today like it was 2019. I succumbed to buying the and I love how lightweight it is on the . I’ve opted for an 80s rave theme for my outfit for next month, so I hit whilst I was there - it’s awesome that whilst a lot of Camden has changed dramatically over the years, Cyberdog remains a constant. I walked past The Good Mixer today, and it’s not how I remember it from the indie days of the 90s 😂

It’s that time of year when the weather changes so frequently, I seem to lose the ability to get myself appropriately dressed, and spend most of the time either complaining I’m too hot or shivering like crazy. This bank holiday Monday required zero sunscreen, but it was pleasant enough to have a wander with the and to capture . I’ve been toying with the idea of buying an X100V to kick myself into shooting more, but we all know that GAS is… well, just a load of hot air really, so I’m holding off and will probably just pick up the XF 23mm for the X-T4 instead. My bank account will thank me, and hey: more coffee and tattoo money.

Sunday lunchtime at with the Fujinon XF 80mm lens and the X-T4. First “photography day” for a very long time, but it was good to get out, despite the rain. And the cold. Amazed I still remember how to work a camera, tbf 😏

I made a ton of resolutions at New Year, because what is life if not a constant self-induced stressfest? 😂 I realised yesterday that combination of all these resolutions result in just “getting myself back to how I felt/looked/functioned pre-pandemic”. Plus they fill an irritating need to feel in control of something. Really, the resolution I should’ve made was probably “chill tf out” 😏

Sometimes, a day will come along that, in hindsight, seems to exist purely as fodder for a future anecdote. My recent incessant complaining about how boring my life has become manifested a very eventful day yesterday whereby I ended up giving a statement to CID clarifying that I was not the victim of an attempted kidnap 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s a long story 😂 The general PSA that I think it’s important to make is that IF you persistently sexually harass a woman from your car window and drive across a grass verge to kerbcrawl her, then well-meaning witnesses are probably gonna call the police on you. It’s 2022. Respect women. Here’s an unrelated photo of a Ferris wheel.

...and suddenly it's Friday again. One of my kids has a non-uniform day at school today, and apparently therefore couldn't possibly wear a coat, because it won't match her carefully curated outfit, despite the constant threat of rain. I'm trying not to be a nag, because, you know, I'm 38, not 68, and she's sending those patronising "you wouldn't understand" teenage vibes at me 😂 The whole time, I'm thinking, "I DO understand. I'm the girl who wore a tiny red dress and nothing else to a November party in London Docklands in 1999, and I don't think I've ever been fully warm again since then". 🙃 But obviously, once you're a parent, you no longer underatand 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anways, this rambling caption is the best tentative link I can make to this photograph, which features a fabulous coat on a crowded Brick Lane from a glorious pre-Covid wander. Hope you all have a great weekend. In my daughter's eyes, I'll probably be spending it playing dominoes and eating Werther's Originials...
