I’ve really enjoyed watching Shovelers closely of late. 🦆✨

There is something so fascinating about their unique silhouette, but it’s the colours that really get me. It’s amazing how the light transforms their plumage from a deep, dark shadow into that vibrant, iridescent emerald in a split second. The rich chestnut flanks and that piercing yellow eye make them such a rewarding subject to sit with and observe.

Europe’s smallest bird, the Goldcrest, proving that you don’t need to be big to be the star of the show. ✨
Commonly found darting through yew and conifers, these tiny “Kinglets” weigh about the same as a 20p coin. I managed to catch this one pausing for a rare millisecond of stillness. Swipe through to see the different moods of this little gold-crowned gem! 👑🌿

Who thought Greylag Geese could be so cool? 🦢

Greylags usually get a bad reputation for being the “grumpy neighbours” of a pond or lake, but catching them in action is a whole different story. 🦢💨
The way they maintain their feathers is basically a high-speed car wash.

Reedbed textures 🌾

There is a quiet beauty in the reedbeds this time of year. The soft, neutral tones and repetitive lines of the stalks create such a natural, textured backdrop that lets the birds truly take center stage.

From acrobatic t**s to low-flying ducks, these wetlands are always full of life if you wait long enough.

We have Stonechats, Long-tailed Tit and Shoveler. Which is your favourite?

Is it just me, or does the Green Woodpecker sometimes look like it’s in the middle of a villain origin story? 🎭

The Yaffle has this distinctly predatory, mischievous glint in its eye. It’s the look of a bird that knows exactly which ants’ nest it’s going to raid next—and isn’t planning on leaving survivors. 🐜❌
Has anyone else noticed that slightly evil side, or have I just spent too much time behind the lens?

Farmland favorites. 🌾 Looking back at these shots of a female Kestrel and a singing Corn Bunting from a little while ago. Always worth keeping an eye on the hedgerows! 🎶 love the classic ‘jangling keys’ song of the Corn Bunting.

Mission accomplished! ✅ I ventured a little further afield with a good friend and started the day hoping to spot an elusive Red Squirrel at the very least, and we were lucky enough to have some lovely sightings. I even managed to capture a few photos, despite challenging lighting. It was also a successful day of birdwatching, too; I hope you enjoyed the Coal Tit, Blue Tit, and Great Tit! Isn’t it wonderful when a plan comes together? Have you ever seen a Red Squirrel?

✨ Spotted these beauties along the woodland edges in Hampshire recently! The sounds of Goldfinches, Lesser Redpolls, and the stunning Bullfinches made the walk absolutely perfect. It’s amazing what you can spot when you slow down and look closely. Which bird is your favourite? 👇
