Ten years ago we were desperately trying to get our new old house refurbished in time for Christmas. All I wanted was to be able to pop a Christmas wreath on the front door and finally call it our home.

Unfortunately, it was another few weeks before it was finally habitable - with a brand new baby too - but each year when I eventually get around to making our door wreath I have a renewed sense of home and of being settled and happy in our lovely community.

Perhaps this year more than ever, putting the wreath on the front door has helped me feel like we’ve made it through. Happy and healthy - sort of! A degree of closure.

It is sad not to be able to be with my mum in Ireland or the outlaws in Somerset, but if there’s one silver lining to this COVID cloud for which I’m secretly quite grateful, it’s the fact we don’t have to travel … at all … anywhere!

Merry Christmas everyone - here’s to a safe, happy, cosy and scaled down celebration of the season at home xx
