Since the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019, Sudan has experienced a turbulent political transition. Following the uprising that led to al-Bashir’s removal, the Sudanese military and a coalition of civic groups united under the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) established a transitional government to lead the country toward a democratic and civilian government. However, the transition has suffered multiple setbacks, including political unrest, rising economic instability, and a military coup on 25 October 2021 that dismantled the civilian institutions and overturned parts of the previous power-sharing arrangement.
Intense clashes between Sudan's military and the country's main paramilitary force have killed countless numbers of people and sent thousands fleeing for safety, as a burgeoning civil war threatens to destabilise the wider region.
The UK started evacuating around 4,000 UK passport holders who have been stranded in the east African country after heavy fighting broke out.

Political activism and art interacting so harmoniously is a uniquely powerful thing.
Most striking visuals – ghostly-white figures cloaked in scarlet-red, drifting gracefully through lines of police and crowds of demonstrators.
These mystical apparitions are the brainchild of Bristolian Doug Francisco, founder of The Invisible Circus launched as a street performance troupe in the 90s. The group often mime in slow-motion or create a series of tableaux during Extinction Rebellion demonstrations.
According to those taking part, the Red Brigade ‘symbolises the common blood we share with all species, that unifies us and makes us one.’

After national service in the Royal Tank Regiment and a law degree at Brasenose College, Oxford, Bruce Kent was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Westminster. Between 1958 and 1987 he served in several London parishes and as the chaplain to the University of London.
A leading spokesperson for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in the 1980s, Kent became well known as a formidable opponent of Margaret Thatcher’s defence policy at a time when public opposition to the acquisition of Trident, and Cruise, was escalating.
He was a popular speaker with audiences of all ages from primary schools to pensioners’ groups. His commitment to innumerable peace and human rights campaigns over many decades included the Campaign Against the Arms Trade, for the reform of the United Nations, and the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (which came into force in 2021).
Among his heroes was Franz Jägerstätter, the Austrian farmer who was executed in 1943 for refusing to fight in Hitler’s army.

It was a bright, clear bank holiday Thursday with thousands of tourists and royalists crammed into The Mall, marking the start of the celebrations of an unprecedented moment in British history.
Four days of events began with Trooping the Colour, followed by the Queen and senior royals gathering on Buckingham Palace's balcony to watch the RAF flypast.

Police officers removed activists who ran into the path of the royal procession on The Mall, London.

A group of demonstrators were dragged by police out of the path of a military band as they marched along at around 10.10am.
Pro-vegan climate and animal rights campaign group Animal Rebellion said its supporters were involved in the disruption “due to the Crown’s inaction on the climate emergency and their continued support for meat, fishing, and dairy, a leading contributor to climate breakdown”.

'Public outrage over the Cost of Living Crisis is growing fast and now is the time for unity, building a collective resistance to
send a clear message to the corrupt Tory government that we refuse to pay for their crisis' . Protesters across the UK have urged the government to pass rising energy prices on to providers instead of low-earning workers.

Similar demonstrations were held across the nation and Saturday's protest opposite Downing Street in central London saw former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn address around three hundred people, waving signs reading “tax the rich” and “freeze energy bills, not people”.

Cabinet minister Brandon Lewis said the government cannot “completely nullify” the impacts of global pressure on energy prices, but it will offer support where possible...

Mr Corbyn said this comment shows the government is “out of touch with the reality of people” facing poverty due to the rising cost of living.
He said: “I’m meeting people who are terrified of the next bill, so the very least we need is a price cap on energy, and then we need to say, well look at the profits of energy companies and look at the difficulties of people living."
“This is the 21st century and we’re the fifth richest country in the world - it’s simply wrong and the government must intervene.”

The Tories are letting energy bills soar by 54%, with AVERAGE household gas and electricity bills rising to £1,971 a year. A further jump in October could take the cost up to £2,600.

Fossil fuel giants Shell and BP are set to make £40,000,000,000 in profits this year.
The Tories choose to squeze your living standards, not their profits.
In France, where energy companies are publicly owned, the government is only allowing a 4% rise.

Bring energy companies into public ownership and run them for our need and not corporate greed. As the Tories let the cost-of-living intensify and intentionally force people into financial hardship and poverty - MPs already on £80k+ are getting a £2,200 pay rise, many of whom are already multimillionaires through inheritance or by other dubious business practices and affiliations with billionaire individuals and multinational corporations, ultimately corrupting their judgment over moral obligations to their constituents
and policy in Public Office.
