IN FOCUS | Guest Speaker: Adam Docker

We are delighted to welcome Adam Docker as our guest speaker at the next IN FOCUS event on Monday 8 June, 7:15 PM, at Riverside Studios, London.

Working across documentary photography, portraiture, and cinematography, Adam's work is shaped by a cinematic eye and grounded in instinct, light, and human connection. Having travelled through more than 90 countries, he creates powerful visual narratives that capture intimate moments, striking human stories, and evocative landscapes from around the world.

For Adam, photography is far more than a visual medium, it is a way of exploring humanity, culture, identity, and belonging. Growing up between London and Rome, influenced by his Italian roots and a large extended family, his life was profoundly shaped by the tragic loss of his father, who was shot dead when Adam was just ten years old. This experience instilled in him a deep sense of resilience, justice, and identity, themes that continue to underpin his creative practice.

Adam's photography seeks to reveal the extraordinary within everyday life.

"I want to catch something in the act and see how it becomes something else." — Adam Docker

Adam is a two-time winner of the British Journal of Photography's Portrait of Britain Award (2021 & 2025) and a recipient of the Portrait of Humanity Award (2021 & 2023). His work has also been recognised by LensCulture and The Independent Photographer.

Join us for an inspiring evening as Adam shares insights into his photographic journey, creative process, and the stories behind his work.

Thank you to Magda Ibrahim and Hammersmith & Fulham News for this wonderful feature on the Sulgrave Club's Centenary exhibition.

It has been a privilege to spend the past 18 months researching, collecting stories, photographs, memorabilia and memories that reveal the extraordinary impact the Sulgrave Club has had on generations of young people in Shepherd's Bush.

As curator of Sulgrave Club 100 Years exhibition, I wanted to create more than a historical display. The exhibition transforms the Club into a living archive, bringing together portraits, photographs, films, audio stories and personal memories that celebrate a century of community, resilience and youth work

The exhibition also features 'Lens on a Century', a documentary photography project developed with local young people through a partnership between the Sulgrave Club and the Photojournalism Hub, ensuring that the voices of today's generation become part of the Club's ongoing story.

Thank you to everyone who shared their memories and helped bring this project to life.

Last Thursday, participants of the  'Seeing the Green' photography project had an inspiring visit to  The Showroom on Church Street to explore Ângela Ferreira’s compelling new exhibition, Slits are Girls.
As a photography group, it was fascinating to see how the exhibit uses archival photography, architecture, and sound to map out such a powerful narrative. Ferreira beautifully connects local west London punk history (specifically the early days of the feminist punk band The Slits) with the anti-apartheid cultural resistance of the South African band National Wake. The exhibition was educational and highly engaging, giving our group much to discuss regarding how photography captures history, rebellion, and social change before they even hit the mainstream.
A massive thank you to Scott Lawrimore  for his incredibly generous and insightful guided tour.

Last night’s In Focus event at Riverside Studios was a truly beautiful evening, thoughtful, moving, and inspiring. We were delighted to welcome guest photographers Rosie Barnes and Pupat Chenaksara, whose work explores the human condition with great sensitivity and depth.

Although distinct in style, both photographers touched on themes of anxiety, mental health, neurodiversity, and autism, creating space for important and deeply human conversations through photography. The discussion that followed was equally meaningful, with incredibly thoughtful questions and reflections from the audience. We were also thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout and a full house.

A special thank you to Rosie Barnes and Pupat Chenaksara for sharing their work, experiences, and generosity with us. Their photo books and prints were also available during the evening, and we warmly encourage people to connect with and support their work.

And finally, thank you to our beautiful audience and once again to Riverside Studios for hosting us and continuing to support spaces for documentary photography and conversation.

Photographs can stop you in your tracks. The people behind them can change how you see entirely.

This Monday, you have the chance to sit in a room with Rosie Barnes and Pupat Chenaksara to hear them speak about why they make the work they do. To ask a question. To be part of a conversation that doesn't happen online.

Not just looking at images, but understanding the human beings behind them and perhaps recognising something of ourselves in the process.

We'd love to see you there.

We are thrilled to welcome photographer Pupat Chenaksara as our guest speaker for the upcoming IN FOCUS event on the 11 May at Riverside Studios at 07:15 pm.
Originally from Bangkok and based in London, Pupat’s work is a deep exploration of the human psyche that grew from his own mental health journey. By turning his lens toward the delicate spaces between fragility and strength, he uses photography as a powerful tool for healing, connection, and navigating life’s uncertainties.

At the IN FOCUS event, Pupat will discuss his moving series, ‘I’m Trying Not to Think About It,’ a project that offers a deeply intimate look at the mental states of young people living with anxiety and depression. Through a combination of portraits and quiet conversations, he traces how society and capitalism quietly shape our emotional lives, bridging the gap between personal struggle and our shared collective experience.

With an MA from UAL and recognition from BBC News, Rolling Stone, and the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards, Pupat brings a uniquely empathetic perspective to documentary photography. We invite you to join us for an evening of quiet reflection and powerful imagery as we discuss finding steadiness in an increasingly unstable world.

On May 11th at 7:15 pm, we are pleased to host Rosie Barnes at Riverside Studios for the next edition of our IN FOCUS series. Rosie will share her work followed by an open Q&A session.
Rosie’s work explores the human condition, neurodiversity, and our relationship with the non-human world. Rosie is known for her influential work on autism and has published two books on the subject and spoken at the National Galleries of Scotland, having had two portraits from ‘No You’re Not, Yes I Am, a portrait of autistic women’, selected for the prestigious Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize.
Beyond her photography, Rosie founded the CIC Satsuma Neighbour, which campaigns for supportive housing communities for autistic individuals. Join us to hear from a speaker who combines photography and deep personal purpose.
