Efim Efím Zaválny - an opera singer from the Mariinsky Theatre, now living in London.

What was meant to be a portrait session somehow turned into a little private concert: guitar, piano, opera, Russian songs and a lot of talking in between.

Exactly the kind of shoot I love: no strict plan, just following the person and seeing where it takes us.

It’s my birthday today 🎈

This year feels a bit different. There have been some big changes in my life lately, and I’m still figuring out what the next chapter looks like.

But I’m here - still taking photographs, making things, meeting wonderful people through my work and finding beauty in ordinary days.

Children never remember being asked to smile.

They remember climbing trees.
Running away from their parents.
Watching ducks.
Being carried when they got tired.

That’s what I try to photograph.
Not perfect behaviour.
Real childhood.

Most people know me as a photographer.

Recently I’ve found myself drawn to a different kind of making - sculpture and ceramics.

What started as curiosity slowly became a place to slow down, to work with my hands, and to create in a completely different way.

Clay has become a place where I can work without a plan, without expectations, and simply follow a form until it reveals itself.

A little reminder that you don’t need to know how to pose to have beautiful photographs.

Most of the people I photograph tell me they’re awkward in front of the camera. Almost all of them leave saying: «That wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought.»

You don’t need to be photogenic.
You just need to be yourself.

And I’ll take care of the rest.
