Diane brings a soulful, stripped-back mix of originals and covers, reworked in her own distinctive jazzy style. Joined by Julian on double bass, the set drifts easily across genres, with a few French favourites woven. With powerful, expressive vocals and a warm, easy stage presence, she’s performed across Europe and in Kent. Alongside this, Diane also sings with 7-piece soul/ska band The Altones and occasionally dips into big band jazz for classic standards.

Julian Whitfield (Double Bass with the Altones too) is a songwriter drawn to the darker corners of the human experience, where grit and grace sit side by side. At the piano, he delivers stark,
personal songs with a raw, unguarded voice, letting vulnerability lead rather than
hiding behind polish. His music feels lived-in and honest, marked by emotional
weight and quiet intensity.
Influenced by the shadowed storytelling of Nick Cave, the poetic gravity of Leonard
Cohen, the nocturnal romance of Richard Hawley, and the reflective bite of Roger
Waters, Whitfield writes songs that confront loss, doubt, love, and survival head-on.
Beneath the bruised surfaces lies a hard-won, deeply human sense of hope.
Live, Whitfield commands attention through stillness as much as sound, creating
performances that feel confessional — inviting listeners into an intimate space
where pain is acknowledged and light is allowed to creep in through the cracks.

Arrive early, grab a drink in the local pub, The Salusbury, tuck into a slice of pizza from our sponsors Pizza Pilgrims and enjoy another incredible Popshop, the best music night out in our Queens Park.

See you there.

What could be better! You guys were super generous and donated brilliantly so we were even able to pay the musicians keep it coming guys!

STRANGE CAT

This Thursday at the gallery we have a change of pace with some Jazz. A quintet called Strange Cat,
The line up includes drums, keys, double bass, sax, trumpet, guitar.
They played a couple of years ago and were fantastic, so this is a welcome return. (We do do that)

Support comes from Chrissy Noa, a Vienna born, London based singer-songwriter blending folk intimacy with influences of jazz, soul and indie pop.
“I want to create a safe space through my music: radiating warmth, kindness and acceptance while also embracing moments of melancholy, uncertainty, nostalgia and heartbreak - offering a “let me give you a hug, I’m here for you” kind of feeling.”

Should make for another amazing Popshop, if you’ve not been for a while, you’ve missed some cracking gigs with a seemingly never-ending line up of brilliant honest live music. We love it and hope you do too.

Come early, grab a drink from the Salusbury, grab a good seat and a slice of free pizza and enjoy the best night out in Queens Park.

See you there.

This Thursday!
Ruby Confue
Another top night at Popshop beckons. We saw Ruby and Neil (and indeed did the sound for them) at the old Salusbury pub closing weekend last year over Easter and promised ourselves to bring them back to Queens Park.
Ruby Confue is an award winning, Urban Jazz Vocalist blending psychedelic rock, soul and urban classics. Expect to be smoothly serenaded with a voice of liquid gold accompanied by Neil Hope on jazz guitar.

Support is from local Popshop regular Craig Miller.

Free pizza and free entry.
Donations will be asked for and given to the musicians , please fill your pockets with blue and brown.
