📸 **The People of Hemel Hempstead Old Town**

Sometimes I go for a walk with my camera without really knowing what I'm going to photograph.

On this particular walk through Hemel Hempstead Old Town, it turned out to be **people**. ❤️

A lady taking a moment on a bench with her little dog, someone I met along the path, a cyclist passing through and a gentleman who was rather unexpectedly accompanied by a feathered friend! 🐦😂

Four completely ordinary moments from an ordinary day — but that's exactly what I like about them.

Photography doesn't always need a landmark, an event or something spectacular happening.

Sometimes it's simply about **the people you meet along the way.** 📸

📸🌈 Your Herts Pride 2026 Photography Team — Bee, Dani & Rob! 🌈📸
And finally, it’s our turn to be in front of the camera!

This year marked my 5th year with Herts Pride as the official photographer, and I was very grateful to have Bee and Rob join me for several hours during the day.

Bee has just finished her A-levels and brought her brilliant young talent and enthusiasm to the team, while Rob—usually a hobby photographer—gave his time and helped us capture even more of the wonderful people, performances and moments happening across the site.

Between us, we gave approximately 25 hours of photography on the day - 13 hours from me and around six hours each from Bee and Rob. But taking the photographs was only the beginning!
With more than 5,000 photographs to work through, I then spent approximately 45 additional hours sorting, selecting and editing them, creating the different frames and preparing everything to be shared across all these posts.

That’s around 70 hours of voluntary work from the three of us to photograph Herts Pride 2026 and share the finished images with you completely free of charge. We hope you’ve enjoyed looking through them and that we’ve captured some wonderful memories for you. ❤️

📱 **Confession: photographers are allowed to use phone cameras too!** 😂📸

Especially when they're on holiday in **Cancún, Mexico** and have absolutely no intention of carrying a load of camera equipment around with them! 🌴☀️

These were taken on my phone on a holiday to Cancún — nothing fancy, just a couple of photographs because I wanted to remember what was in front of me.

I spend so much time thinking about cameras, lenses and settings that sometimes it's lovely to remember that photography doesn't have to be complicated.

The best camera is sometimes simply **the one you've got with you.** ❤️📱

Although looking through these again has created another problem...

**I REALLY want to go back to Mexico now!** 😂🇲🇽🌊

🌈 **The Stalls of Herts Pride 2026!** 🌈

Herts Pride wouldn’t be complete without the fantastic collection of stalls filling the site with information, support, creativity and plenty of wonderful things to discover!

From local businesses and community organisations to charities, support services and our generous sponsors, every stall brought something valuable to the day. Not every memorial tells us who someone was.
Sometimes all that remains is a weathered figure standing silently beneath the trees.
I don't know whose grave this watches over.
I don't know the family who chose her.
But more than a century later she still stands, quietly keeping watch while the woodland slowly grows around her.
That's one of the things I love most about old cemeteries. Every path has stories—some recorded, some remembered, and some now lost to time.

📷 FAQ FRIDAY
Are you actually a qualified photographer?
This one has actually been asked recently, so it seems like the perfect place to start FAQ Friday!
I've always loved taking photos, but like lots of things in life, my camera spent a period gathering dust in storage.
Then, in August 2019, I took part in a short photography course with Sam Levy . Quite simply, he gave me my photography mojo back. The camera came back out of storage… and it hasn't really been put away since!
From there I wanted to learn more. I've completed lots of online photography courses, including AYWMC, and in 2020 I completed the Open University photography degree.
Of course, qualifications are only one part of being a photographer. Since then I've spent thousands of hours behind a camera, photographing everything from wildlife and live performances to community events, celebrations and some of life's much quieter moments.
And I'm still learning. I don't think I'll ever stop.
So, am I a qualified photographer?
Yep! But I'm also a photographer who still gets ridiculously excited when the light is perfect or an animal actually looks in my direction. 😂📷

🌈 **Some of the Fabulous Faces of Herts Pride 2026!** 🌈

This collection celebrates some of the many people who each brought something important to the day.

Our brilliant interpreters helped make the entertainment more accessible; the emergency services were there to help keep everyone safe; our hosts kept the day moving with plenty of energy and personality; and the wonderful Drag Kings and Queens brought all the colour, creativity and fabulousness we could ask for! 👑✨

Very different roles, but each one helped make Herts Pride the welcoming, inclusive and joyful celebration that it was.
