Opening this Friday July 15th at 7pm “Memory Ownership: Between Censorship and a Diary“ Berlin. Some of my work from China Dream will be along with .bubich, and Dick Lau.

Not only for personal motives can memories – individual or collective – be (self-)censored or erased. And not only pursuing the goals of safety or linguistic convenience. Unfortunately, human civilization knows numerous examples, when the subjects of forced memory censorships were entire languages, entire nationalities, entire decades of countries’ histories. In the frst half of the 21st century, humankind seems to be repeating many ordeals the civilization hoped would remain a thing of the past – we again have to struggle diseases, injustice and lawlessness, sufferings, and deaths of the innocent caused by the madness of self-proclaimed leaders whose knowledge of the history of humankind appears to be too short. Onсe again do we have to fght for our memories, protecting them against external infuences, censorship, and the processes of distortion caused by its very nature.
Around 50% of our recollections naturally transform in the course of a single year altered by our accumulated experiences and emotions, however much more harm is done when the changes are caused by external pressure. So, who do our memories really belong to? Who owns the original, «true», record of what we have seen, felt, and experienced? What could be done to resist memory censorship? A new exhibition and a new „Halbtotale - Talk“ on the topic brings together four artists from Belarus, Hong Kong, Canada and Siberia whose works demonstrate various approaches to the research of the elusive nature of memory.
🙏 & .bubich for the invitation
