RSPB Rye Meads, Hoddesdon

A pair of Kingfishers were digging a nest in the sandy bank. The female (shown) was sitting on a perch before washing off the sand. As part of the courtship the male will pass fish to the female, before they mate.
Equipment: Canon R5, 100-400 IS L with 2x Extender.
Settings: 800mm f/13 1/500 sec ISO 1250 EXP 0

This juvenile Kingfisher has grown up in the park and is comfortable with being close to humans. It fishes from the trees along the River Ver and the bridge across the lake.

The willows in the distance gave a golden glow to the background.

Lemsford Springs Nature Reserve

The Kingfisher perch is often visited by Grey Wagtails but this is the first visit from a Kestrel. He/she stayed for 20 minutes allowing lots of photos at a slower shutter speed before setting to 1/2000 second for a sequence of departure shots.
