📸 Behind the Lens – Why did I start photography?

I’ve always loved taking photos and capturing little moments that you can look back on for years to come. 🤍

It really started after I took some photographs for my little boy’s christening, and got one printed into a big canvas! My husband saw how much I loved it and encouraged me to take photography further, eventually giving me the push to start my own business.😬

Also, I’ve always loved working with children, so family photography felt like such a natural fit for me. Being able to combine the two — working with families and capturing their memories — is definitely one of my favourite parts of what I do.🫶🏼

And that’s really where my photography journey began… one camera, a bit of encouragement, and a love of capturing the people and moments that matter. 📷🤍

I’m opening up a handful of dates for relaxed, natural family location shoots across Lancashire this autumn — perfect for updating those family photos while the colours are beautiful. 🍁

📍 Green Drive, Lytham — 11th October
📍 Stanley Park, Blackpool — 17th October
📍 Avenham Park, Preston — 18th October
📍 Ribby Hall, Kirkham - 24th October

I’ll also have some availability on 20th & 27th September, with locations flexible on these dates.

Families, children, couples and furry friends are all welcome! 🐾

📸 Just because… 🤍

A little trip to Green Drive, Lytham with my boy after a shopping trip to show off his new clothes! 💁🏽‍♂️

He’s always had the best little style and knows exactly what he likes, so this was the perfect excuse for a few photos.📸

Green Drive is such a gorgeous spot for location shoots too — woodland, natural light and plenty of space for children to just be themselves. It’s especially lovely in spring and autumn.🤎

And it got me thinking… where should I photograph next? 👀

📸 WEDNESDAY | SESSION TIPS 🤍

“What should we wear?!”

Probably one of the biggest questions before a family shoot! 😂

My biggest tip? Don’t overthink it.

🌿 Choose colours that complement each other rather than matching
🤍 Soft, neutral and earthy tones photograph beautifully
👕 Avoid big logos or really busy patterns
🥰 Most importantly — wear something you feel comfortable and confident in!

The aim is for your photos to look like you and your family.😂📸

📸 TUESDAY — BEHIND THE LENS 🤍

So… why did I start photography?

It actually started over 10 years ago, completely by accident. 🥹

I was on maternity leave after having my little boy and had just left the childcare industry. I took a photograph for his christening, had it printed onto a huge canvas and my husband said…(I might share this with you soon!)

“Why don’t you do photography?” 📸

And that little comment started everything. 🤍
I slowly bought equipment, taught myself, practised and started trying to build a little business of my own.

Every job I’ve had has involved working with children and families, and photography gave me another way to do that.

Capturing the cuddles, the laughs, the tiny details and those moments you don't realise will mean so much until years later. 🥹

And one of the BEST bits? Seeing someone's reaction when I send their photographs. ❤️

Over 10 years later, after breaks, babies, different careers and a lot of life in between… here I am building it again as The Family Haven Photography. 🌿📸

And it all started with one photograph and one little comment from my husband. 🤍

🤍 Another little update here at The Family Haven Photography…

If you've been here from the start, you'll know that photography is something I'm incredibly passionate about, and that isn't changing! 📸❤️

But following my midwifery degree I've had the urge to build something a little bigger and that's where The Family Haven began. Alongside my photography, I've got lots of ideas around helping families throughout their pregnancy and parenting journey.

Rather than filling this page with lots of different types of content and letting my photography get lost amongst it, I've decided to create a separate page for The Family Haven Support. 🌿
