Friday Swim Club has got a life of its own now — the community is bigger than me, and honestly, that's the dream.

I'm away for the next two weeks, but you'll be in wonderful hands: our OG members Ted and Jo, plus my own mother, will be hosting. Ted is perfecting his pineapple upside down cake, so I'll clearly need to come back from France with a renewed baking edge!

Fridays, 9–10.30am
Community, cold water and cake 🍰

This ritual has brought so much to our lives. Every time I think I don't have time, I go anyway — and come out with a renewed zest for life. I'm hooked.

Shout out to Mannie and James for creating this woodland watery wonderland for us all to escape to.

Another out of office! Lucky gal off camping in Carnac with the fam — lots of playing on and in the water, then lying horizontally in the sun while a 5-year-old sticks Peppa Pigs up my nose.

Come September I'll be bombing you with lots of lovely new work — hopefully enough to inspire you to enquire about your own new project. But for the next two weeks, I'm doing a hell of a lot of this instead. This summer's parenting-businesswoman juggling act is real. Big up all of you doing the same... dropping the odd ball, perhaps?

Tracey Emin & Frida Kahlo at the Tate

Two powerful women. Two women who became symbols for the rest of us.

Emin spoke to me when I was a sixth form art student, and standing in front of her work again I was glad to find that sixth former had taste. The way she speaks so openly about her experiences, the female experience — she was way ahead of her time, and she still is.

I went with Sian, apt for such a trip, 2 more strong women a friend, yoga teacher and collaborator . We met when I had just had my daughter (our own Frida) and and the work spoke to us both. The gallery felt like such a powerful place and gave space to feel sadness for whatever suffering women had felt. Somewhere between the rooms, I felt like I forgave a younger self for finding things hard.

Reflecting on The Unmade Bed, work that got my attention when seeing it in London in 1997 (apparently, which is mad as that actually made me 10 when I saw it) and it still stops me now. If I think about my own project Babybrain and what I want people to take from it, it's this — perfectly imperfect. Being vulnerable. Showing people your metaphorical unmade bed. Not self-deprecating. Just real. And the immense strength in that.

And then the portrait dressed as Frida — Emin honours her. Being a symbol. Supporting other great women. Raising each other up.

It made me think of Donna Ashworth's To the Women, which I read aloud at a friend's hen party recently leading a morning yoga class. Because that's what yoga is to me — cultivating gorgeous female circles of friendship and greatness, and carrying them out of the studio and into our lives.

My second year there and this lady, I would and do follow. Getting lost and found with her has been the most wonderful experiences and to think that she didn't or maybe still doesn't like photographs of herself.

It is a pleasure capturing this Greek Queen and mother of one very lucky young girl.

To suggesting and booking something so ridiculous and believing in us. What a team she gathered for it. You have done Gel and Keith proud.

31 miles in a day, it's laughable but what a journey 👌🏻

Homemade cake, complimentary sports massage regular water stations with an assortment of sweets and a really nutritious healthy lunch. Badger's in laws at multiple stations with ice packs, replacement sunglasses, melon, phone chargers....🫶🏻

We had family and friends support us along the way and bring some fresh energy (and fresh trainers) to the last 5 miles home. Big up Jim and my step kiddos and .

I feel cracked open with kindness.

We were sponsored generiously by (relative to us) a young and lovely lady called Evie who carried on the walk when her colleagues had to drop out at 10 miles and she walked with us to the end! What a legend. She deserves some top work place kudos 👏

We are walking 31 miles, me, Lily, Lydia, Sarah and Steohan, tomorrow in memory of my friend Lily's Dad, Keith who was looked after by St Richards Hospice at the end of his life.

Me and Lily met when we were 4 and are still friends 🧡

Babybrain — exploring more authentic images of motherhood. Created in collaboration with mothers.

This photo of Me For Queen, taken in 2018, is where it all began.

Mary — an artist and now dear friend, I'd worked with before — came to me pregnant, needing portraits to support her latest music release. I remember googling portraits of pregnant women and we both felt uninspired by dreamy images of mothers in wheat fields. What Mary was actually navigating felt so much more interesting, paradoxical and complex than that.

So in the studio, we played instead — exploring Mary's new shape, her new range of movement, and what might be described as "baby brain."

Years on, having become a stepmother and a mother myself, I've become a little obsessed with this idea. The project has grown into exploring this with mothers more widely — breaking down the psychology of the change, and our relationship to image and photographic image: how they're connected, and how they're not. Opening up honest conversations with women about their own unique experience of how they lose, find, and discover new parts of themselves along the way — and finding ways to express that through movement and image-making.

There's so much more to come, as I apply for funding to bring this project into my rural community here in Malvern.

Thank you to every mother who has trusted me with taking their photograph, even when it feels uncomfortable, and to everyone who has worked with me and supported this project so far. 💛
