They called this the "Teddy Bear Nebula" (Sh2-171), but hoslnestly speaking, it looks far more like a cosmic bear that’s had zero sleep.

This was the second target I was able to capture on my astro run earlier in the week.

Deep out in Cepheus, about 3,000 light-years away, this stellar nursery is actively carving out massive dust pillars and baby stars. Next time the skies play nice, I’m punching in with the telephoto to get right into that moody central snout.

A couple of weeks ago while tracking Comet 220P up at Buckstones Car Park, I stumbled across this cosmic patch of sky and made a mental note to come back for it ☄️👀

If you shoot astrophotography in Manchester, you already know clear skies don’t just fall into your lap,you battle the unpredictable weather, watch the cloud radar like a hawk, and pounce on the first clear window you get .

​After two long weeks of waiting out the cloud cover, I finally got 3.3 hours of clean tracking time on the Lobster Claw Nebula (Sh2-157) 🦞✨

Pulling out those faint ionized gas filaments, dark dust lanes, the Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635), and NGC 7538 straight out of Bortle 7 light pollution made every single freezing minute worth the wait

I’ve spent years trying to catch the Perseid meteor shower properly, but between Manchester’s unpredictable weather and bad timing with the full moon, luck was never on my side. This year felt different, and I was determined to walk away with something.

By the time night rolled around, I was running on empty after staying up late three nights in a row and shooting the solar eclipse earlier that same day. Buckstones was completely packed out, so I headed back to my earlier spot only to be met with relentless high winds. Using a star tracker was out of the question, so I stripped everything down to basics: a sturdy tripod, my camera, and a wide lens.

600 shots later, squinting at the tiny back screen in the dark, I couldn't spot a single clear meteor. I packed up and drove home feeling completely defeated, convinced I’d walked away empty-handed.

It wasn't until I imported the raw files onto my monitor the next morning that I realized just how much the sensor actually picked up.
