Q1: Why purple? No.

Because it rhymes with turtle. Q2: Why a turtle? Because it's a snapping turtle. But with a camera rather than jaws. It's clever and subversive. Q3: I don't really -

name is Jak Stocker, a copywriter and self-taught photographer based in the centre of Manchester. Besides writing and photography, I also enjoy a bit of Latin dancing in my spare time, which is how I've been lucky enough to work with so many great instructors in and around Manchester. Crucially, I am not actually a turtle. I am not a turtle on a startling scale. Q6: What services do you offer? Mainly photography and content writing, and I may be able to offer some general marketing assistance, depending on what you need. I'm most experienced with events and product photography, but always ready to try new things. Unfortunately I can't yet offer editing as a service, as my laptop is so old that it has a disconcerting habit of lightly screaming for a bit on startup, so I think another program might just kill it off for good. (I am saving though, so watch this space!)


Q7: Who else works for the turtle? For now, the Purple Snapping Turtle is a one-man band, which means it's currently just me and Mervil. Q8: Did you design Mervil? I did some very rough initial sketches, but the final logo was designed by a very talented acquaintance of mine, who is still deciding whether or not she wants her name out there.

I'm from Surrey, and I've lived up North for almost 15 years now so most of the time I forget exactly how *much* I am from Surrey - until I photograph proper Northern weddings like this one. Liam and Rachael are two of the nicest people you could meet, and they thoroughly deserve each other :)

Kicking off 2025 with a quick look back at one of my biggest photography highlights of last year - witnessing two of my closest friends getting engaged at the Manchester SBK UK Congress in the summer of 2024.

I was (and remain) hugely honoured to be able to document such a significant moment in Jay and Rheanne's lives, and obviously I made sure to remain a consummate professional throughout.**



( **I was in tears pretty much from the outset, as you may have spotted if you ever saw literally any video taken from the audience. I LOVE a wedding.)

Top tip: if anyone ever asks you "hey, I'm going to see Oceanless live, wanna come? Also I think Oscar Bryant & The Bluebirds are gonna be there" then you say yes. Say it quickly. Say it without thinking, with no regard to other plans. These people make good music and they do GREAT shows, and you deserve to see them.

(Side note: every one of them is an absolutely LOVELY dude, as well. No wonder the place was rammed.)

I realised tonight that it's been almost SIX MONTHS since I last posted anything. Can't have that. Rest assured, I'm still alive - I've currently got a metric *tonne* of backlogged photos to go through, and I'm gearing up for what's set to be a VERY exciting dance festival this weekend.

So while I get myself sorted for that, here's one of my favourites from the many pictures I took at Manchester Pride last week. Very grateful I got an opportunity to be there for the actual parade this year - it's hard to describe if you weren't there. Suffice to say, it's the perfect antidote to all the craziness recently.

And as they say: love is love. ❤️🏳️‍🌈
