SAD BREAKING NEWS: Aer Lingus UK suspends transatlantic flight sales from to North America from 31st March 2026, due to “uncertainty” on the future of its Manchester base.

Aer Lingus said it will begin consulting with staff on “mitigating job losses which would occur in the event of a base closure” in coming days.

The statement continued, saying: “To minimise disruption for passengers, the airline has paused the sale of transatlantic flights to and from Manchester for travel from 31 March 2026. This currently affects long-haul services linking Manchester with New York, Orlando and Barbados. It’s important to note that short-haul services are unaffected with all Aer Lingus Regional and mainline flights between Manchester and Ireland continuing as normal.”

This is sad news for all involved and especially Aer Lingus staff based at Manchester.

Christmas is the time I miss my dad the most, as it’s like the heart has been taken from our family. But the odd time, you feel like there is a sign from beyond. The retro livery Boeing 787-9 is one of those moments, as one of my fondest memories of my dad is seeing the old Gulf Air Lockheed L1011 Tristar in this livery in my first trip to as a 5 year old child. Seeing this aircraft brings back all the excitement I felt back then, especially as I had just been thinking about my dad when this beauty appeared heading for the runway. I had no clue it was even this livery operating.

Etihad’s beautiful, all sky-blue Manchester City special livery 787-9, A6-BND, arriving in its namesake city.

The six year old aircraft was unveiled painted in the livery when brand new in 2019 to celebrate Etihad’s continued sponsorship of the famous Manchester City Football Club, to “celebrate their success on and off the pitch”.

BA’s absolutely stunning BEA (British European Airways) retro liveried Airbus A319-131, G-EUPJ, departing on a sunny winter’s morning (13-12-2025).

To celebrate its centenary in 2019, British Airways painted four of its aircraft in retro liveries (3x Boeing 747 and 1x Airbus A319), covering the airlines prior to BA’s amalgamation as a single entity (BOAC & BEA) together with two of the most famous former BA colour schemes, Nagus and Landor. However the 2020 pandemic forced the early retirement of the BA 747 fleet and with it the three historic liveries (BOAC, Nagus and Landor).

Today, only G-EUPJ remains wearing the BEA scheme, having retuned to service from 18-months storage in Spain. However, this airframe is likely to be retired for scrapping in 2026 as per BA’s fleet renewal programme.

Wholly owned by BOAC (British Airways and Imperial Airways prior to 1939), British European Airways existed from 1946 until 1974 when BOAC and BEA merged into became British Airways. BEA operated to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from airports around the United Kingdom.

SCRAPPED - 13 year old Tui Boeing 787-8, G-TUID, “Angel of the Sky”, is set to be broken up for parts following the end of its lease period with the famous charter airline. Scheduled to leave Prestwick today for E-Cube at Kemble, the airframe’s final flight has however been postponed.

Online comments suggest another airline had bought the airframe to supply spares for its own aircraft. G-TUID’s last commercial flight on 27 November, when it operated TOM547 between Bridgetown and Manchester.
