The images for this timelapse have been sat on my computer since 2015, waiting to be worked on! Partly because the camera got knocked a few times by other tourists, and I knew I also messed the settings up a bit for a smooth transition sunrise, so I knew it would be a bit of work. Still pretty happy with the results though, and one of my favourite places from my travels.
Tourists are no longer allowed to do what we did then, as the temples have become UNESCO protected.
I *think* it starts off with Venus and Mars as the brightest objects, disappearing in the dawn.

"The Great Conjunction"
3 days after they were at their closest, I got another glimpse of Jupiter and Saturn on Christmas Eve. You can just see 3 of Jupiter's moons, and Saturn looks slightly elongated (due to the rings). Not too bad with a 200mm lens. Shame we missed the closest on 21st in Manchester.

and low in the evening sky, 7 days before they'll appear to pretty much touch! Aka the Christmas star or conjunction. It's one of the theories to explain a potential "star of Bethlehem", as Jupiter and Saturn came very close several times around 6-7BC, so definitely suiting the Christmas star name. 21st December is also the winter solstice, the shortest day. Be glad for the longer days to return!
Excuse the poor blurry photography this was handheld on my phone while out for a reccy!

After a fairly disappointing Sunday night trek south of Manchester to try to capture Comet NEOWISE above the Manchester skyline, last night I travelled to Forest of Bowland for darker skies. It was a bit hazy, and the comet has definitely faded from my only other good view of it 10 days ago, but when darkness finally arrived it was still visible with the eye and much nicer on camera. Lots of shooting stars too, I was lucky enough to get one in shot on this close-up at 105mm 1 minute exposure. Slightly makes up for the wide angle shot I was trying to take when a fireball went through and the camera shutter was being a pain!

Not too bad for my second photo attempt last night of Comet Neowise, from the hazy ground mist of Hardy Farm, Chorlton, facing north towards Manchester city centre.

Was looking through some travel photos for a friend, and found this. There's loads of shots that I never got around to sharing. This is of a traditional style house in , which is in , . I loved the shape and style of these houses, and there were still lots of them spread around the villages and towns in the area. It was a very interesting stop off point, at the end of my trip in 2016. It's a place where they are Christian, but still heavily influenced by pre-christian tradition. They revere the dead here, and hold epic funerals. I attended one, and it was a blood bath of animal sacrifice (what seemed to me to be an open abbatoir). It costs a lot of money, and they aren't wealthy people, so sometimes they can end up living with embalmed dead relatives for months or even years!

and at sunset earlier. Got me thinking that it would be great if the cities and towns would turn the streetlights off once in a while with conditions like these so everyone could appreciate the night sky! Everyone is on lockdown. Barely a plane in the sky. Less pollution. Amazing conditions.

Some lovely morning sights on the runs to work this week 😍
