There's only one week left until 'How NOT to Flee a War', a gripping real life story about escaping from Ukraine by Maria Romanenko and Jez Myers.

Join us and Open Eye Gallery at the Turnpike Gallery on Wednesday 22nd January from 6-8pm to hear Maria and Jez discuss the challenges they faced, the decisions they made, what they would do differently next time, and how close it all came to going wrong.

Following this feature-length talk, hear from Wigan-based photographer Harley Bainbridge Photography, who has recently worked with Open Eye Gallery to publish his project (Re)Settled: Ukrainian Stories in Wigan; and Yana, a recently-displaced Ukrainian living in Wigan who collaborated with Harley on the publication.

If you or someone you know is Ukrainian and lives in the Wigan and Leigh area this is for you!

I’m looking for participants who would like to share their experiences of settling in the UK

As part of the documenting the experiences of those who have faced leaving their home I want to make a series of photographic portraits that will sit alongside audio and video recordings of your story

Ukrainian communities based in Wigan are invited to join photographer Harley Bainbridge Photography for a drop-in portrait session at the Turnpike Gallery on Saturday 11th January 11am-1pm and Wednesday 15th January 1-3pm.

We want to share your story of resettling in Greater Manchester through film and photography. We’re looking for people who are comfortable telling us about their experiences of moving here following the 2020 conflict escalation.

Happy New Year everyone!

I saved my first post of the year for these amazing pieces of news I want to share with you all

First, late last year I found out that one of the images from my Ukrainian project was shortlisted in the 1854 Media The British Journal of Photography Portrait of Britain exhibition, but today I can officially announce that it has been selected as a Winner and will be on exhibition across the UK courtesy of JCDecaux

Second, that same project was published by Open Eye Gallery in a zine which is currently available at The Turnpike Gallery in Leigh, at OpenEye in Liverpool and online through Issuu which you can see here - https://issuu.com/openeyegallery/docs/_re_settled_harley_bainbridge_issuu

Third, The Turnpike Gallery have commissioned an extension to that project to be delivery on the 11th and 15th of January, so I'm looking for participants who live in the Wigan area to visit the gallery to share their stories of resettling here in the UK you can book here - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/share-your-story-with-photographer-harley-bainbridge-tickets-1117663655079?aff=oddtdtcreator

And finally, as part of all the work with OpenEye and The Turnpike I'll be speaking with Yana, one of my participates, at an open event on the 22nd of January, if you interested in hearing about our project and the experiences of Jeremy Myers and Maria Romanenko from Talks for Ukraine who present the talk 'How not to flee a war', sharing their story of fleeing Ukraine...

You can book tickets here - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/how-not-to-flee-a-war-tickets-1132838904659

I never knew there was place like this!

Diggerland is the playground for everyone interested in heavy machinery, and earlier this year I was there The A World UK CIC as they took over the park for one o their Autism friendly days.

Seeing the kids driving round in diggers and tractors was amazing!

One of the few gloriously sunny days we saw in Winter was thankfully the day I visited NERIC to photograph there location alongside Salford Uni.

NERIC work in supporting the development and application of automation and robotics into businesses of all sizes. I may have had the pleasure of being able to photograph some of their most interesting equipment so keep an eye out for those photos in the next few days
