The Witch stone, Mitchell’s Fold stone circle, Shropshire.
Folklore states that a witch was turned to stone and imprisoned in the stone circle for trying to milk a magical cow that produced an endless supply of milk for the local residents. The witch frightened the cow, which fled and she was turned to stone as punishment for this evil act.

A map and/or reliable GPS device is essential, or "the chances of getting hopelessly lost are high". Close by are 2 fallen stones with an almost concealed fourth pillar.
Earlier reports indicate a fifth stone, now gone, which suggests that this was formerly a 5-stone row about 33' long. 📷 MegalithicMouse More: http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=2091

For European Archaeology Day we have a photograph of the massive unexcavated passage-grave known as Queen Maeve's cairn on the flat summit of Knocknarea Mountain, four kilometers west of the Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery. The huge cairn of stones in 60 meters in diameter and 10 meters high, and is constructed on a massive platform with a high content of quartz.

A ring of kerbstones surround the base, though many are covered by cairn stones. The large stone in the foreground is potentially a fallen standing stone. While the monument has never been opened in modern times, a scan last year demonstrated the presence of a passage and chamber within the massive cairn of stones.
