I am delighted to finally share that I am heading back to Nepal as the Field Director of the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT), based in Pokhara. Apologies for the radio silence up to this point!
The GWT is an incredibly special organisation which means so much to me (and many others) - with the primary function of allowing former Gurkhas or their widows to live their lives with dignity.

To have this opportunity (again!) to serve the GWT for a few years is so incredibly special and I am truly honoured to have been given this chance.

I depart these shores on 3 January 2024 with Blou joining a little later.

My service dress is back from the tailor, my mess dress is looking sharp, and I am incredibly excited to be back in the fold!

For those of you who have supported and help fund work in Nepal, you can find a super write-up on the Foreign Office website (link in the bio). I’m spending quite a lot of time in Nepal this year - not just photography, but supporting as they expand and increase their effect in Nepal (and elsewhere). It’s such an honour to a part of this incredible team.

A snap-shot of my trek to Sikles and the villages surrounding it.

From the majestic and massive mountains of Annapurna, to the tiny alpine flowers that accompany you on your trek

The bird life, to people going about their work, it’s a fascinating study in high altitude life.

Just one camera and one lens.

It’s unusual for me not to have a “bag of lenses” when I’m travelling. Different situations require different bits of kit.

Or so I thought.

I’ve come to Nepal with one camera body ( ) and I’m trialling the new z24-120 f4 S lens from

I’ve added a couple of the photos from walking around Kathmandu this morning. Portraits, landscapes, detail. Oh my goodness! I’ve fallen in love with it!

Responsive, light, and solid too. Feels peachy in the mitts.

Of course, having a backdrop like Nepal helps….

The 2022 Photo Journey Gathering

So many exciting things happening with Photo Journey this year, and we’d love to share them with you.

You might have seen recent posts announcing new courses for 2022, but the best way to properly explain is to do it in person (we are people-people, after all). Each year, we meet our friends (old friends, future friends, and brand-new toe-dippers) at our social gathering. Not only will you meet other like-minded people (everyone is welcome!), but you’ll also be able to meet our wider team of professional photographers, adventurers and explorers (including Saraya Cortaville and Quintin Lake!); all in the wonderful setting of the Victory Services Club, near Marble Arch.

The evening begins at 6pm on Friday 25th February and for 2 hours, over some drinks and nibbles, we’ll have talks, show photographs, hear from previous guests, and generally warm into the Photo Journey spirit.

You can find this event on the Eventbrite website. Just search “Photo Journey” or go direct at: https://ift.tt/3tobNgV

We’d love to see you there!

P.S. we have a fabulous Photo Walk there following morning through the 3 big parks of London. You will also find those details on Eventbrite, or here at: https://ift.tt/3tjPg4W

Well, this is disappointing.

There are stories about S*x Power and Tory Sleaze but alas no story about a fine little photographic tour company that runs exceptional trips to Nepal.

Apparently stories do get dropped without warning and thankfully Ash is on the case to figure out what happened and why.

Fingers crossed the story will be published soon and we’ll keep you posted.

Apologies to anyone who a) got excited and is now disappointed b) spent £3 on a newspaper they’d normally never buy.

On! On!

Tomorrow - Sunday 7 November - we salute the work of journalist and are excited that the Sunday Times is publishing the story of his time with us in Nepal.

Ash relates how his growth as a photographer allowed him to connect to people and landscape in a way he’d not previously been able.

Why not treat yourself: pick up a copy, take a quiet moment and be transported to the Himalayas.

We’ll see you there :)

Demonstrating an edit.
After a long day outside we made space for a mini portrait workshop. Editing these images is often a personal experience, but it’s great to share techniques!
We’ll be adding more targeted workshops to our Scotland adventure in April next year.
Come and join us!
