Hello :-) My first FB post of 2024 features a new picture, and I hope that this one appeals not just to those who know the Outer Hebrides, but to some who simply like the sea, castles, islands, mountains, boats, and colourful interpretations of landscapes. This picture is of Castlebay on the island of Barra, the main landmass in the southernmost of the Western Isles. Barra is a 5 hour trip by ferry from Oban to Castlebay, and as far an inhabited place from the Scottish mainland as anywhere else bar Shetland. The hill rising behind Castlebay is called Heaval, and despite being just a few hundred metres high, it simply towers over the town. And in real life, many or most of the buildings are greywashed by the wind, rain and sun, but I had always intended the houses in my picture to have the look of the toy wooden painted houses you might find in a child's toybox, so I hope I pulled that off.
Anyhow, it'll see its first appearance in the outside world at Carlisle Farmers' Market on Saturday, and Dumfries Farmers' Market on Sunday.
