An incredible encounter just now off the coast of Coll in the inner Hebrides with I’ve been fortunate to have many incredible encounters with orca or killer whales over the last 30 years but this is my first time to ever encounter these impressive mammals in the Waters around the UK. Apparently they may be from a pod from Iceland. Feel extremely fortunate to have seen them. A big thank you to our skipper Rob and naturalist .smith.wildlife

A stunning day in the Shiants today with
These spectacular islands are home to one of the UK’s largest puffin colonies - almost a quarter of a million birds which come to these remote Scottish islands to breed.

On Wednesday, I had the honour of receiving an OBE from Prince William at Windsor Castle for services to Conservation, to Science and the Natural World.
Work that has never once felt like work. I’m a little lost for words if I’m being honest. Just very, very grateful and looking forward to what comes next.

Happy birthday David - the man who inspired me as a child and whose incredible documentaries led me to pursue my career as a wildlife filmmaker and photographer. Such an incredible privilege to have worked with him on The Blue Planet, Planet Earth and other BBC programmes. Thank you for inspiring me and millions of others. ❤️ (first pic from over 30 years ago! Second with two National Treasures and two of life’s greatest humans).

I am devastated to report that my ex-husband Doug passed away early this morning in Nepal, while on a climbing trip.

It is of comfort to know that he was doing something adventurous with a dear friend of ours, with whom he’d shared many adventures over several decades.

Doug was, and always will be, a massive part of my life, not just for the 15 years we were together but from when we met back in 1989 when he was kind and generous enough to give me advice.
The adventures we shared as wildlife filmmakers on The Blue Planet, Planet Earth, and other BBC documentaries are precious memories and, of course, a privileged job which we loved. His influence on my life was profound and has led to a lifetime working in the polar regions, a passion we shared.

Doug was a brilliant and incredibly determined cameraman and photographer, who will also rightly be remembered as the passionate conservationist he was, whose legacy is the incredible body of work which has inspired so many.

When we spoke just over a week ago he was full of positive news and it was great to hear him so buoyant. We’d planned to meet up on his return from Nepal.

My heart goes out to Liam, Judy, Ron, Graeme, April and his partner Sue.

Remembering Doug with deep affection, respect and gratitude for a lifetime of memories.
Rest in peace, dear Doug.

As we approach the spectacular Thwaite’s glacier in Antarctica, I’m reminded of its ominous nickname - the Doomsday Glacier. Changes to this massive glacier in Marie Byrd Land will significantly affect sea levels and coastal communities globally.

Thanks to my Alma mater, The Queen's School, Chester for this lovely post with some of my polar images.
