Here is a video that I made back when I studied film-making in 2017.

The college brief was to make a documentary film so I asked Pat Hackett if I could make a film about the centre. I have a lot of memories of the centre because as well as working there I have fond memories from when I used to go to the youth club. It's were I learned to play pool and I honed my body-popping skills :)

(I actually had more enthusiasm than skill in both but I enjoyed it and that was the main thing.)

The centre is a great place and has always been there to help the community. As Pat Hackett says in the video, the centre is always evolving, and now with Charlotte's Brightside at the helm it really has transformed massively, both figuratively and literally, with a huge range of new activities, a social supermarket and a brand new colourful appearance thanks to the talented artist Adam Bresnen (brezaux_)

Here's a video recorded back in 2018 of The New Brighteners

https://www.facebook.com/groups/thenewbrighteners

The New Brighteners are a voluntary group that keep the beaches and seas in and around New Brighton clean and free of rubbish

Their work helps support New Brighton’s tourism, improving the visitor experience, and contributing positively to the local economy.

I interviewed New Brightener Dave Peddie in New Brighton Community Centre and whilst we spoke he told me about the origins of the group, the work they do and highlighted the fact that more people need to be aware of the problem discard litter causes.

Dave also talks about Wayne Dixon and about how he was travelling around the UK coast with his dog Koda cleaning litter.

The video includes photographs that Jan E Peddie, Wayne Dixon and Martin Parr kindly gave me permission to use.

(They are not really rivals. The Wombles clear the parts of Wirral the The New Brighteners don't cover.)
