How to Store Camera Film.

Proper storage protects film from heat, moisture and light, helping to preserve its colour, sensitivity and overall image quality.

- Keep it cool: Store film in a cool, dry place away from radiators, sunlight and temperature changes.

- Refrigerate for longer storage: Unopened film can be kept in the fridge, ideally in its original packaging or a sealed bag.

- Freeze for very long storage: Film can be frozen to extend its lifespan, particularly if you have bought it in bulk.

- Let it warm up before opening: Allow refrigerated film a few hours—and frozen film up to 24 hours—to reach room temperature before removing its sealed packaging. This prevents condensation.

- Protect it from humidity: Keep film sealed and consider using a moisture-proof container.

- Develop exposed film promptly: Once used, keep the roll cool and have it processed as soon as reasonably possible.

- Check the manufacturer’s guidance: Instant film and specialist films may have different storage requirements.

Simple rule: Keep film cool, dry, sealed and away from direct light.

Did you know? Colour-negative film creates an image with reversed colours that becomes positive when scanned or printed.

Colour-negative film records light and colour in reverse: bright areas appear dark, and colours appear as their opposites. During scanning or printing, these values are reversed again, producing an image with natural colours and brightness.
