A rare heavy passing overhead — Air India Boeing 777-337(ER) VT-ALT, operating AIC189 from Vienna to Toronto, captured cruising over the North East at 34,000ft.

Almost seven miles up and still pulling out this level of detail. 📸🔭

1.4 MILES // 1600MM

1.4 miles away. 1600mm. One RAF Voyager lined up perfectly. 📸

An RAF Voyager departing Newcastle, photographed head-on from around 1.4 miles away using my Nikon Z8, 800mm PF and 2x teleconverter — giving me a huge 1600mm of reach.

The video shows just how far away the aircraft actually was before that focal length completely transforms the perspective.

Sometimes the shot is all about putting yourself in the right place and letting the compression do the rest. ✈️🔥

One of the final opportunities to photograph an icon of USAF aerial refuelling.

USAF McDonnell Douglas KC-10A Extender 86-0031 “GOLD72”, operated by the 349th Air Mobility Wing from Travis AFB, rotates gracefully from Edinburgh Airport during a deployment to Scotland.

With its distinctive tri-jet configuration and immense presence, the KC-10 served the United States Air Force for more than four decades, providing strategic air-to-air refuelling and global airlift capability. Watching this veteran lift into the Scottish evening light was a reminder that some aircraft are far more than machines—they become legends.

𝟯𝟴,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲… ✈️☁️🌍

An Air Transat Airbus A330-243 cruising from Istanbul 🇹🇷 to Toronto 🇨🇦, captured as it passed overhead at 38,000 feet and almost 500 mph.

With the right atmospheric conditions and my Nikon Z8 paired with the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S and 2x Teleconverter (1600mm equivalent), it’s incredible what can be resolved from the ground.

High-level aviation photography has become one of my favourite challenges. Every successful image is a mix of planning, patience, stable air and a little bit of luck.

𝟮𝟬 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝘆. 𝟯𝟭,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗨𝗽.

A Norwegian 737 crossing the face of the Moon at cruising altitude.

Captured from around 20 miles away as the aircraft passed directly between my position and the Moon for less than a second. Timing opportunities like this are incredibly brief, making preparation and precision absolutely critical.

To plan the transit, I used Transit Chaser — an incredible tool designed specifically for tracking lunar and solar transits. As a proud Transit Chaser ambassador, it’s become an essential part of my workflow when chasing these once-in-a-moment alignments.
