I started my journey in photography as a very keen amateur, back in 1999. I learned how to develop my own film and stared printing my own images in my home darkroom. The first time I saw an image appear in the chemicals from a white sheet of paper, I was hooked. I’ve always remained as a keen amateur rather than professional, however, I have one book published called “a different way of life”, printed back in 2010. Some copies still available, but it was a limited run. I hold an LRPS from the Royal Photographic Society and am a member of the PSA too. from my time as a darkroom worker, my main love is still black and white, but the darkroom has gone (due to working abroad for almost 15 years) so, mostly I work in digital these days In both colour and monochrome. I don’t have a set genre, I just photograph what I like! People, places, documentary, landscapes, dereliction... I hope you like my work.

So, I was at the Great North Run on Sunday, (as an observer and supporter, not as a runner!), and took quite a lot of shots during the race. For me, the GNR is not so much about the pro runners and elite athletes, it’s about normal, everyday people, doing something extraordinary for themselves, for a lost family member, for a charity or cause, overcoming a disability or adversity or just to prove they can do it. Real people, helping other real people that may be on the edge of their endurance or connections of passing runners with those supporting them no matter how fleeting. This is the power of the Great North Run, the greatest half marathon in the world. This is my first set of images. I have lots more. 😬

Hagg Bank bridge, (The Points Bridge) .. in Wylam, across the River Tyne. Built in 1876 by the Scotswood, Newburn and Wylam Railway Company. It is a suspension bridge, and was built to allow trains to cross the river and connect North Wylam station to the Newcastle to Carlisle line for transporting coal, coke, steel, iron, etc. Long since closed and is now only open to pedestrians.
