Could Kodak Gold be the perfect film for summer? ☀️

If you’re heading to the beach, off on holiday, exploring Cornwall, or just making the most of those long sunny evenings, Kodak Gold is definitely one of our favourite films this time of year. It gives you those lovely warm colours, rich golden tones, and that classic film look that just feels like summer. Blue skies pop, sunsets glow, and even everyday moments seem to have that little bit of magic on film.

Of course, we also offer same day colour development and scanning, so you won’t be waiting long to see your summer memories.

A little favour to ask everyone!

If you’ve asked for your negatives back, could you pop in and collect them when you get a chance? We’ve got to the point where we’ve simply run out of storage space. I’d much rather keep everyone’s negatives forever, but unfortunately the lab just isn’t big enough! I’ve definitely been a bit too soft with our storage times over the last year because I hate throwing anything away, but it’s time we started sticking to our 4 month holding policy.

Here’s how we’re going to introduce it.

Phase 1
Starting this month, we’ll be disposing of any negatives from before July 2025.

Phase 2 (starting in September)
Dispose of any negatives from before December 2025.

Phase 3 (starting in October)
we will be fully sticking to our 4 month holding policy, so any negatives older than 4 months will be disposed of.

We’ve also got quite a few prints dating back to January 2025 that are still waiting to be collected. We’ll always do our best to contact customers before any prints are shredded, but please don’t rely on us being able to reach everyone.So if you’ve been meaning to pop in, this is your gentle reminder. We’d love to reunite you with your negatives and prints before we have to make some space!

Thanks so much for understanding and for helping us keep the lab running smoothly. We really appreciate it.

Popped out with some Kodak Pro Image down on Towan Beach in the sunshine and I have to say, it’s definitely a film worth loading into your camera this summer. The colours are lovely, it handles bright conditions really well, and it’s got that classic Kodak look that just suits a day by the sea. If you’re planning a few beach days, coastal walks or summer trips, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go. These shots were taken on a Canon Sure shot !

Trying out the Nikon F4 with a roll of Ilford XP2 and I have to say, what a camera. It feels great in the hand, built like a tank and the results have been brilliant.

I only picked it up to test, but I’m not going to lie, I’m very tempted to keep this one for myself! Every now and then a camera comes along that just feels right and the F4 is definitely one of them.

Thought I’d give the new Lucky 200 a try the other evening and I have to say, I’m quite impressed with it.

These shots were taken on Towan Beach as the sun was going down, all on my Canon AE-1 Program in manual mode. The colours are quite different to ColourPlus and it’s definitely got its own look.For a budget film, I think it’s done a pretty good job. No, it’s not Portra, but your bank account won’t need a lie down afterwards either.The best bit? It’s the same price as ColourPlus here at the lab, so if you fancy trying something a little different, why not give it a go?

Popped out last night to finally try out 400D, all shot on a Canon AE-1 Program. I’ve been meaning to give this film a proper go for a while now and finally got the chance to load a roll up and head out with the camera. Really impressed with the results.

The Canon AE-1 Program is always a pleasure to use and paired with 400D it made for a great combination. There’s something special about heading out with a film camera, taking your time and not knowing exactly what you’re going to get these are a few of my favourites from the roll.

If you’d like to give it a go yourself, we keep CineStill 400D in stock here at Proper Photography Kernow and you can grab a roll at a proper price. As always, same day colour film development and scanning is available as standard, so you won’t be waiting long to see your results.

Everything goes through our Noritsu setup so it all stays consistent and true to your film every time. That includes proper black and white scans for black and white film, not colour conversions.
