Wild Lands Hide FIELD LOG: 08.03.26

📍Stanta boundary, IP25 Norfolk
☁️ Conditions: 8-12C / humidity 96% / light: overcast with a light mist

Species count as of 2pm today: 25 including 5 red on the red list!

🦅 A brilliant day at watching wildlife in a landscape that's been strictly off-bounds to the public since 1942! Non-stop action from first light.

HIGHLIGHTS

🦌 ROE DEER: A group of 4 roe deer grazed in front of the hide. My picture is dreadful! Sorry!
Look for their white cotton tails in my photo.

🐦Linnet explosion: A flock of about 40 linnets suddenly exploded into the air in a blind panic.

🦅 THE CULPRIT: Our regular female sparrowhawk was on the hunt.

LIVE UPDATE TODAY FROM Wild Lands Hide 06.03.26

31 species. 5 raptors. 1 ambush 📸

The is peaking in IP25, Breckland, Norfolk. Today's greatest sight: a multi-species raptor hunt (3 buzzards, a kestrel & a sparrowhawk) hunting a 70 something flock of starlings. I thought the video was on. It wasn't. Rookie mistake!

I managed to captured the sparrowhawk on one of it's favourite ambush posts. 🎯

Why book now?

🍂 ZERO FOLIAGE: Track flight paths clearly

🦌 DEER DUO: Roe & muntjac moving consistently along the movement corridor

🔥 HIGH ACTIVITY: 31 species in one session. The food web here is in overdrive!

DM to grab a session at this new hide in Breckland while the sightlines are this good.

What a day on the Stanta edge! There were many sightings today. The Yellowhammer has returned to the perches - a male providing a brilliant flash of red list gold in the morning light.

We also had a trio of roe deer grazing calmly in front of Wild Lands Hide. The resident barn owl made a final quartering pass at first light before heading back to the nesting box which has line of sight to the hide and a female sparrowhawk made her usual fast morning passes.

PHOTOGRAPHER'S NOTES
The 7.30am to 9.30am light is currently falling well on the perches, with the low March sun giving strong contrast opportunities - I just need to improve my end of the camera!
