Some photos from my visit to Eyemouth last Saturday, with a couple of short bits of drone footage thrown in too.

In these photos is the Shannon class lifeboat “Helen Hastings” RNLI 13-29

“The Shannon is the latest class of all-weather lifeboat to join the RNLI fleet. She’s the first modern all-weather lifeboat to be propelled by waterjets instead of traditional propellers, making her our most agile and manoeuvrable all-weather lifeboat yet.”

Great to spend a little bit of time chatting with the crew and thanks for making me so welcome.

On Saturday I had a surprise visit to Coldingham beach to watch the Water Safety in the Bay event, involving boats and crew from Eyemouth and St Abbs, Eyemouth Coastguard and

The event was organised by 👏🏼

I had been to Eyemouth in the morning to take photos of the Shannon class lifeboat “Helen Hastings” when the crew mentioned about the event - attending it in their D class lifeboat “Sheila”.

A great event showing multi agencies working together, demonstrating various life saving skills.

My cousin and his son are cycling Lands End to John O’Groats as to raise money for, and awareness of,

I’ll be support driver, crew, photographer, awful jokes person and general whatever needs doing person.

Really proud of Finlay for taking on this challenge, and for recently having done his first 100 mile cycle. At the weekend, both he and Arran did another 100 mile ride on the Saturday and then an 85 mile on the Sunday.

We head south on 23 July and start for John O’Groats on the 25th.

Link will be in the bio to donate to the father and son duo.

A huge thanks also to who are supporting this fantastic challenge 🙏🏼

Valuable advice from RNLI North Berwick Lifeboat on staying safe on the water, and what to do should a situation arise.

The crew actually had a further call out after the post, so four in 48 hours.

Stay safe. Be prepared. Enjoy responsibly.

RNLI

We've launched 3 times in the last 6 days, including twice this weekend already.

🚤Sunday 17 May: 7.16pm to a broken down Personal Water Craft
🛶Friday 22 May: 6.16pm to a person in the water from a sunken kayak
🛟Saturday 23 May 6.47pm to search for a stand up paddleboard in an offshore wind with RNLI Anstruther Lifeboat

Warmer weather tempting you to head out onto the water?

✅ Always wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid
✅ Carry a waterproofed means of calling for help
✅ Check the weather and tides, avoid offshore winds on a SUP
✅ Carry an anchor suitable for your craft
✅ Check your craft's engine and fuel are serviceable
✅ Tell someone ashore

☎️ In any coastal emergency, dial 999 for the Coastguard.

A trip to Dunbar to see the lifeboat, John Neville Taylor, 14-35, off from the harbour, to sail to North Berwick for a joint training exercise with the d-class lifeboat, by Bass Rock.

I stayed close to the harbour, enjoying the sunshine and views (with good binoculars I was also able to see a little bit of the training at Bass Rock, from the cliff tops by the swimming pool), and the return journey.

End of an era!

A short montage from a recent trip to one of my favourite places in Scotland and possibly the last time I’ll manage to pay it a visit.

The near 6 hour drive to get there aside, the requirement to visit the top of Scotland is no longer there and the restrictions on being able to gain access to the spot is sporadic, but always present!

Be considerate. Be respectful. Leave no trace.

Hopefully see you again…

On Sunday I popped along to station in South Queensferry to see what I could capture on 📷

A volunteer crew were going to be carrying out training on the water involving person rescue from the water.

The sun was shining, the crew were very helpful, and it would turn out to be a longer than what I had expected visit. This was in part due to a “shout” that came in as they had loaded the B class (851) lifeboat back onto the trailer at the end of the training session. And so, they launched again and off to successfully deal with the task.

Prior to launch I was wondering how the lifeboat would get on the water as the tide hadn’t reached the bottom of the pier yet and there was no slip for the trailer and vehicle to get onto the beach. Have a look at the photos for how they launch, but basically the trailer is put into position at the pier edge and the lifeboat tilted bow up… sliding backwards onto the water. Recovery a case of pushing the trailer into the water and maneuvering the lifeboat onto it.

Remember the lifeboat and shore crews are volunteers so please, if you can, give whatever support you can to the RNLI.

Link in the bio for the website.

These and more photographs will be loaded onto the RNLI gallery of my website later today. Again, link in the bio.
