This is a portrait of Poppy, my Springer Spaniel, who I lost 4 years ago and who was very young in this photo. The photograph was taken a few months before I moved from Kent to Norfolk almost 17 years ago. She was a wild-spirited dog, although always very obedient and my faithful companion for almost 15 years.

Had seen many of these in the garden this year. This particular moth actually came into our dinningroom, through the patio door, one evening. Photographed with flash whilst flying past a window. Hence the black background.

Hippeastrum Lilly taken at Home

I was inspired to take a series of photos in this style after looking up at a rhododendron flower with the sun behind it. Most flowers are seen front-lit but the back-lighting made the flower glow.

I set the plant up in front of a windows with the midday sun streaming through and placed a black card behind it so that it obscured the entire background while still allowing the sun to shine through the petals. I used the lens? ?sweet-spot? aperture of f/8 to get the sharpest image but this produced a slightly too narrow depth of field to get the whole of the flower in focus so I took a number of images at differing focus points and focus-merged them in Affinity Photo 2 to achieve this result.
