Musical Influences: Part 4

What is music? To most people, it’s an inspiration. From the beat to the lyrics, it has helped me become who I am and has inspired the visual work I create. This project aims to explore the way in which different music, and specifically the lyrics of songs, has influenced people. For decades music has been a large part of life and how many choose to express their emotions. I decided to create monochrome imagery to focus on the emotions portrayed by the subject. Focusing on a variety of people, it has enabled me to understand on a deeper level how different genres of music has inspired them in their lives.

Coronavirus has put our lives on a pause, some staying at home isolated, others working on the front line to keep us safe. Schools, Shops and Parks closed to keep the virus from spreading and the lockdown has been in place since 23rd March 2020. Me and photographer Tom Harman, have created a collaboration project on the effects caused by Covid-19. We have documented this global pandemic by looking at how communities are changing during the lockdown as well as the effect it is having on someone who is isolating due to health. All images were taken from either 2 meters or of household members and were also taken during my one daily walk. Stay Safe and Keep Positive.

A project a little different from what I have done before. Focusing on the issues of plastic pollution in our oceans., the effect it has on the animals living in these environments and to make you think, what if it was you?

What if it was you? Trapped in plastic. Trapped in twine. Trapped in the cycle created by humans ending with extinction. Over time pollution has rapidly increased causing issues within our environment, affecting us and our creatures. My pieces aim to enlighten the current crisis of plastic pollution in our lives and within our oceans which are caused by us and only be changed by us. My work aims to show the emotion which these animals feel and what it is like to feel trapped. So, my question to you is, what if it was you?

The final set of images from my Imagination, Contemplation, Reflection series.

Reflection

Memories and emotions are a big part of life. As a child, I would run around the woods playing games and making things out of broken branches. As an adult I would start to reflect on life, questioning myself. How did I get in this position in life? Would I change anything? One day, I will look back on life and see how it has evolved. From losing family to gaining some. When I am surrounded by nature I start to wonder, the silence and fresh air clear my mind and make me think about the past, present and future. My work aims to show you and make you think about these stages of life.
