SPA, the Student Publication Association is a UK registered charity which supports over 230 student publications with training, censorship advocacy, etc.
Alongside some truly bright young things, I recently enjoyed a weekend of engaging workshops and talks from well-known journalists and presenters at SPANC 2026, their National Conference, at the UEA.
From listening to Maryam Moshiri's hilarious recollections of her viral 'middle finger' airing to the nation, to more sombre reporter stories, such as listening to Megan Harwood-Baynes relay the experience of sitting in the court where Lucy Letby was sentenced, witnessing the reactions of Lucy's family, the victim's families, then having to do a piece on air only seconds later.
And let me tell you, budding journalists know how to party hard and still turn up for their morning workshops, putting my student history to complete shame!
Another job which makes me query whether this is 'work' or not!
