Walk this way
I'm not normally a huge fan of obvious images like this (tree arching over gate) but when the light play ball it would be rude not to take the shot.

Birch Rave
Loved this scene on Saturday, when it felt like there were no more images to be had towards the end of the day myself and .photography came across this scene. To me it looks like the birch are having a bit of a dance off.

Follow the light

Another example from yesterday where with lack of fog and a sea of greens we were looking for tonal contrast in the greens to get separation in the trees.

Quiet Defiance - Headed to Padley/Bolehill yesterday with .photography and spent some time enjoying the late spring greens of the woodland in-between showers.

The biggest issue we faced was finding tonal contrast in a sea of greens. But standing on the edge of the woodland I spotted this single mountain ash with the backdrop of the dark birch woodland beyond with just enough light to stand out.

For me I love the way the single tree stands out on its own seemingly in defiance to the rest of the woodland.

One of my Favourites, taken back in August 2020 during a family holiday near Barmouth.

This is a view from Llyn Cynwch looking out towards Cadair Idris.

A place I'd never visited before but everything came together that morning, the water level being high enough to submerge the tree roots and the low lying fog. I've returned 4 times since and sadly never had conditions like this since. The water has often been too low or the fog not present.

Long overdue a revisit.

Taking some inspiration from at the weekend from a recent web talk he did about shooting your local Landscape, I headed out to Bosworth Battlefields just down the road. Starting off Shenton train station on the Battlefield line I set off on a 6.5 mile walk to see what I could capture locally. I'll have a video out in a couple of weeks but for now the first shot of the morning.

I was drawn to the light filtering through the canopy, lighting up the path and rail bridge.

A really enjoyable walk around Bosworth Battlefields yesterday after being inspired by Steve Stan Stain "My Landscape" web talk over on Fotofums, encouraging you to shoot local. It's very easy to look at your local landscape and think of it as boring. But by getting out there, there are hidden gems to be found if you put the leg work in.

I took this towards the end of the walk and loved interaction between these oaks, the natural archway leading the eye into the frame.

We have lots more web talks planned not only from the Thumbs Up team, but other photographers outside of the Thumbs Up space. We highly recommend signing up for the price of a couple of coffees a month, we hope to see you there.
