Booking 2027 and 2028 My passion for photography was encouraged by my Dad.

I’m Aly
-A portrait and wedding photographer based in Oban, Scotland (And heck yeah, I’ll travel to you). Capturing your emotions, love story, eye crinkles, ugly laughs, sneaky kisses, your real and authentic story. I was 12 years old when he taught me to shoot on a Nikon FM3A film camera, and I’ve had a camera in my hand ever since. I grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in America and moved to Oba

n in May of 2022. I’ve been working as a photographer for the last 7 years. I am a natural light photographer; my photos often have a light, airy feel and deep play in contrasts. Don't hesitate to contact me if you are interested in having me as your photographer for your wedding or other events or projects.

Dani & Daisy’s anniversary is coming up, which means I’ve apparently reached the part of the year where I get emotional looking through old galleries. 🥹

I still think about this wedding all the time.

The quiet morning getting ready together. The harp. The ridiculous Scottish weather. Running around the mountains wrapped in cloaks. The tiny details. The way these two looked at each other all bloody day.

There are weddings I photograph that stay with me for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with the photographs, and this is one of them.

One of the strangest and loveliest parts of this job is being invited into someone’s life for something incredibly personal, spending a whole day documenting the people they love most, and occasionally coming out the other side having made actual friends.

Dani and Daisy, I’m very grateful you trusted me with this day. Even more grateful that I get to call you friends now. 🤍

Happy almost anniversary, you two. Here’s to many, many more.

And yes, I will absolutely be using your anniversary as an excuse to put these photographs back on everyone’s feed because LOOK AT YOU.

A little throwback to one of my favourite weddings from last year at M & G’s celebration at the George Peabody Library in Baltimore, with a few never-before-seen images from the gallery. 🖤

This one had everything I love photographing. Beautiful architecture, black tie, soft florals, emotional little in-between moments, a ceremony that felt deeply personal, and then the kind of dance floor that completely changed the energy by the end of the night.

I still stand by American’s bring more energy to the dance floor!

I think that’s why I still love looking back through this gallery. It never felt like just a collection of pretty wedding photos. It felt like the actual day.

Elegant, a little cinematic, occasionally chaotic, and very, very human.

Still one of those weddings I think about often.

Planning something beautiful for 2027 or 2028? I’d love to hear about it.

A wedding gallery should not feel like a collection of unrelated beautiful photographs.

It should feel like the day had a beginning, a pulse and an ending. The room before everyone arrived. The hands. The weather. The ridiculous little moments. The photograph you will frame, and the photograph that becomes more important twenty years from now.

That is the story I am looking for!

AND NO, THIS IS NOT ABOUT BEN. 😂

Ben is wonderful. 10/10 husband. Love that man.
This is about the Italian I almost married. Entirely different cinematic universe.

I learned to read a room.

I learned that control and organisation are not the same thing.

I learned to trust red flags.

I learned to protect my peace.

I learned to have a backup for the backup.

And I learned never to make myself smaller to keep someone else comfortable.

Now, weirdly enough, I use all of those lessons when I photograph weddings.

Because your wedding should not be about keeping everyone else happy.

Wear the dress.
Book the castle.
Have the strange little ceremony.
Skip the traditions you hate.
Ignore Aunt Susan’s unsolicited opinion.

You are allowed to build a wedding that actually feels like you.

So, cheers to the Italian for the professional development, I suppose. 💀

I got out, rebuilt my life, found my partner, and somehow turned the lessons into something useful.

0/10 relationship. Excellent character arc.

Now I need to know: what completely unrelated life experience accidentally made you better at your job?

Your wedding doesn’t need more stuff. It needs a vision. 👀

You can book the incredible florist, choose the perfect dress, spend thousands on stationery, hire an amazing photographer and fill the tables with candles…

…and still end up with a wedding that somehow doesn’t feel cohesive.

That’s where a wedding creative director comes in. ✨

Think of them as the person looking at the entire visual world of your wedding, not just one part of it.

🎨 Colour + overall aesthetic
💐 Florals + décor direction
🕯️ Lighting + atmosphere
👗 Fashion + styling
🍽️ Tablescapes + details
📸 And how all of it will actually translate into photographs

Your planner makes sure the wedding happens.

Your creative director makes sure that when it does, it looks and feels exactly the way you imagined.

So when you tell me you want “Italian cinema meets gothic romance, candlelight everywhere, a little old-world decadence, but absolutely NOT themed”…

I know exactly what you mean. 😂🖤

And yes, this is now a service I offer. Because I’ve been doing this for free for clients for years, I might as well get paid for it.

Now I’m curious: did you know wedding creative directors were even a thing? 👇

Save this if you’re currently planning your wedding, and send it to the person whose Pinterest board needs professional intervention. 😂

Your wedding does not need to be approved by committee.

This year I’ve had multiple couples tell me they toned down parts of their wedding because family members didn’t like their ideas.

Not because of budget. Not because it wasn’t practical.

Because somebody had an opinion.

And I’m sorry, but if your family are not paying for the wedding, they do not get to run it. And even if they are contributing, that still does not mean they get to buy creative control.

A wedding should feel like the two people actually getting married.

Wear the colourful dress. Book the castle. Skip the traditions you hate. Keep the ones you love. Make it strange, romantic, dramatic, quiet, chaotic, whatever the hell feels like you.

Your family can have feelings about it.

They just don’t get to have the final say.

Do we agree, or am I about to get absolutely cooked in the comments? 👀

Proof that your wedding does not have to look like anybody else’s to be timeless.

Black lace. A crown. Wh**ky from the quaich. Confetti flying absolutely fu***ng everywhere. Highland cows. A little bit of debauchery. And two people who understood the assignment completely.

There’s something I love about photographing weddings like this. The traditions are still there, but they’ve been pulled apart and put back together in a way that actually feels like the people getting married.

Elegant without being precious. Gothic without becoming a costume. Romantic without behaving itself.

And somewhere amongst all of that, we made photographs that feel a little like they were discovered in a slightly scandalous family archive.

A very small sneak peek from a very, very good day. 🖤

If your idea of wedding photography involves dark romance, old buildings, candid chaos and portraits with a little bite to them… hello. You’ve found me.
