HOT WEATHER TIPS!
My oldest daughter was born in a heatwave, so I know from experience that being pregnant and having a newborn when it’s hot is miserable. Here are my tips to stay cool.
- cool yourself - icy water on the back of your next, wrists and feet will cool your whole body
- a bowl of ice in front of a fan will cool the air that’s being blown around the room
- keep your house cool! Curtains and windows shut at the side of the house with the sun on it. You’ll feel like a vampire hiding in the dark, but that’s okay if it keeps you cool.. once the sun has gone down in the evening open all the curtains and all the blinds and all the windows, so the cooler evening air can cool the house down ready for bedtime
- Get out of the house and use someone else’s air-conditioning. Just going for a drive in the car will call you down, with the AC on full will go to a large store for a browse. Supermarkets like Tesco have lots of things for babies to look at, plus they’re nice and cool, and lots of them have cafés too. I went to Dunelm at the weekend. It was lovely and cool and the café was really reasonably priced.
- The cinema is a great option on a hot day. Plus as it’s half term at the moment there are lots of family, children and baby friendly showings so you won’t feel awful if your little one isn’t quiet.
- If all else fails look at getting a small air-conditioning unit. I have one in my studio which makes it really comfortable. They cost between £300 and £400 which feels like a big investment when it’s really only for a couple of weeks of the year, but I’ve had mine for five years now it’s still going strong and I wouldn’t be without it.
Stay cool!
