Pitney, seen from above. This time a more comprehensive view of the village.
Lisa Walker was correct with her guess yesterday 🙌🙂💪 this is indeed the village of Pitney, near Somerton. There's a lovely farm shop, and a good pub there, making Pitney well worth a visit.
Pitney boasts evidence of settlement from as far back as the Bronze Age, and there have been Roman finds there also.
The British Museum plays host to a find known as "The Pitney Brooch", a Saxon, cast bronze brooch.
Pitney is recorded in the Domesday book as "Petenie" which supports an Old English meaning of "the traversing stream".
