We are a photography club for all abilities based in Otley. Join us every Thursday evening September to May for socials, tuition, competitions and speakers.

We also run a number of 'out and abouts' throughout the year catering for all interests.

🌿📸 Our first Out & About of the season!

Yesterday saw the first of our Out & About photography days for the new season, with members heading off to the fantastic Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park near Grewelthorpe.

So, what exactly is an Out & About?

They're our chance to take photography out of the clubhouse and actually get out there and shoot! Members meet up at interesting locations, spend time photographing whatever catches their eye, try different techniques and, importantly, learn from and enjoy the experience with other members.

And the Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park is pretty much perfect for it. Set across 45 acres of woodland, gardens, lakes and an arboretum, the park is home to more than 90 sculptures, creating endless opportunities for photography.

The weather certainly tried to put us off, with a rather damp start to the day! 🌧️ But our members weren't deterred – and eventually the sun came out to reward them. ☀️

It was also great to see members experimenting with different creative approaches. With art and sculpture everywhere you look, it's the perfect place to try something a little different and play with your photography.

Here are just a few of the images captured by Kay, Claire and Danni during the day.

And this is only the first of many Out & Abouts planned for the season. We can't wait to see where the cameras take us next!

📸 WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK – CAROLYN MENDELSOHN

We’re looking forward to welcoming award-winning portrait photographer Carolyn Mendelsohn to Otley Camera Club this Thursday for an inspiring evening of photography, projects and personal stories.

Carolyn will share her journey into photography and the stories behind some of her most powerful portrait projects.

Her work explores how portrait photography can do much more than simply capture someone's appearance. It can tell stories, amplify voices and create meaningful connections.

It promises to be a fascinating evening, whether you love photographing people yourself or simply enjoy hearing the stories and ideas behind great photography.

🎉 WHAT AN AMAZING START TO THE NEW SEASON! 📸

What a way to kick off our 2026/27 season last night!

It was a good job we made the move to our bigger clubhouse at Otley Common, because we had an incredible 47 people through the door! 👏

There was a fantastic atmosphere all evening, with our returning members clearly excited to be back, catching up with friends and getting stuck into another year of photography.

And it was brilliant to welcome so many new faces too. In fact, we're incredibly excited to say that we're currently looking at around 20 new members joining the club this season! 🤯📸

That's a fantastic response and shows just how much enthusiasm there is for photography in our local community.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along last night, whether you've been with us for years or it was your very first evening. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

The new season is already off to a flying start — and we've got a lot more photography, learning, trips, competitions and fun still to come!

OTLEY CAMERA CLUB NEW SEASON STARTS TOMORROW

📸 WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK – WELCOME BACK! 📸

After our summer break, Otley Camera Club is back this Thursday as we launch our 2026/27 season!

⏰ 7:30pm – 9:30pm
📍 Otley Common

We're kicking off the new season with a chance to catch up with friends, discover what's coming up in this year's programme and, of course, enjoy a slice of cake! 🎂

We'll also asking our members to share three of their favourite images from the summer – giving us a chance to see what everyone has been getting up to with their cameras during the break.

It's a great way to start the new season, with plenty of photography, inspiration and conversation.

New members are always welcome, so if you've been thinking about joining us, this is a perfect evening to come along and find out what we're all about.

🏆 PHOTO OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 🏆

A little late getting this out - sorry!

The winner of our July Photo of the Month competition was… Emily Waring! 👏📸

July's entries gave last month's winner, Richard Sells, a particularly difficult job, with some fantastic photographs to choose from. There were colourful Pride images, great landscapes, a wonderful storytelling wildlife image and even a striking car photograph.

But Emily’s analogue photograph stood out for Richard.

He loved the muted colours and wonderfully nostalgic feel, saying the image looked as though it could have been taken in the 1950s in Provence. It certainly has a timeless quality to it!

Congratulations, Emily — the chocolate will be handed over next week when the new season begins and the task of judging the August competition is over to you. 🍫👏

📸 LEARN BY DOING – AND GET OUT WITH YOUR CAMERA!

Photography is about more than just taking pictures — it’s about experimenting, trying new things and finding creative ways to make the most of your camera.

At Otley Camera Club, our programme includes a range of practical sessions where members can get hands-on, try new techniques and learn from each other in a relaxed and friendly environment.

We also have our ‘Out and Abouts’, where we head out together to photograph some fantastic places and events.

Plus more trips and activities to be organised, including a weekend trip.

It's a great way to put your photography into practice, discover new subjects, share ideas and enjoy getting out with other photographers.

📸 A NEW SEASON. A FANTASTIC LINE-UP OF SPEAKERS.

Our new season at Otley Camera Club starts on Thursday 3 September – and we’ve got some brilliant photographers lined up to inspire us throughout the year.

From powerful portrait projects and stunning wildlife to light painting, architectural photography, smartphone photography, abstract work and filmmaking, there’s a fantastic variety of subjects to explore.

Each speaker brings their own style, experience and approach to photography, giving our members plenty of inspiration and ideas to take away and try themselves.

📸 Meet the Members – John Northover LRPS, CPAGB 📸

This week we meet John Northover LRPS, CPAGB who joined Otley Camera Club two & a half years ago after moving up north.

John is a fabulous photographer and his talent has certainly been recognised within the club, having been crowned Photographer of the Year for the last two years running! 🏆

John is always happy to share his knowledge with fellow members, particularly during our practical sessions, where he is often on hand to help and offer advice.

He has also shared his photography with the club as a speaker, delivering two excellent evenings for us over the past couple of years.

John's photography covers a wide range of subjects, from dramatic landscapes and night skies to wildlife, architecture, aviation and portraiture. The selection here gives just a small taste of his work.

We're really pleased to have John as part of Otley Camera Club.
