Test Valley Wildlife

Test Valley Wildlife A showcase of wildlife images taken in Hampshire's beautiful Test Valley. I have lived in the village of Overton in Hampshire since 2011.

My name is Deb Heath - I am a primary school teacher by profession but recently have been spending most of my time as an enthusiastic wildlife photographer. I love being out in the country; if you are quiet and observant, you are rewarded with the many and beautiful sights that the English countryside has to offer.

A post for the technical photographers - Zoom lenses are great but if the subject gets too close, in this case the Muntjac doe was about 2m from me, then my 500mm lens at this range gives me no depth of field (the distance behind and in front of the subject that is in focus). Side on the picture is not too bad but when she turned to face me and I focussed on her head and eyes, the rest of the deer is out of focus. Nothing you can do - it's just the physics of the lenses but something to bear in mind.
It still makes for a nice picture and a it's a lovely experience when deer walk past this close.

Well this was a surprise - I haven't seen a Clouded Yellow butterfly for several years! They are an amazing colour, on both sides. They migrate from North Africa and Southern Europe. Some years we seen none, other years they come over in large numbers.

I can't resist a couple more images! Last ones - promise!!

Lavender oil is primarily celebrated for its calming aroma, which can ease stress and improve sleep quality - it certainly worked on this Roe buck!
