Flimston ✨

A super peaceful night under the stars at Flimston Chapel. This medieval building has stood for over 600 years, and I had it all to myself beneath the Milky Way.
After a nice explore of the surrounding ruins, I finished up with a shot of the Celtic cross in the chapel grounds before heading home.

Blood Moon 🌑

With another lunar eclipse on the way this week, I thought I'd share this one from an eventful night in 2019.

My original plan went out the window, clouds rolled in at exactly the wrong moment, and a last-minute change of location meant hopping electric fences, splashing through a swamp and frantically flipping lenses in a race against time. Just as I was about to pack up, the clouds parted, the Blood Moon appeared above Carew Castle, and I got the shot.

What a night - loved it!

Drift 🌊

Another warm summer night at Freshwater West. I found a comfortable driftwood bench and watched the clouds roll in from the sea, creating a dramatic sky beneath the Milky Way.

Mint 🌿

With the beaches super-busy for the eclipse, I trekked the cliffs of St Govan's in search of solitude. Beneath the Milky Way, a wash of green airglow gave the sky an almost minty vibe.

A lush summer evening at Broad Haven South, with the Buck Moon rising behind Church Rock. The sea was calm, the air was still, and everything aligned perfectly.

Alignment 🌌

It's safe to say I won't be repeating this shot. It took patience and planning around Milky Way alignment, wind speed, direction, and focus. Mars also made a guest appearance in frame. You may need to zoom in to see me!

I took this photo in September 2018 and was never content with the edit. Now seemed a good time to try some additional techniques for processing the Milky Way, and I'm happier with the result. Always learning.

What makes this image really special to me is that my late Dad calmly insisted on being there because of the precarious nature of the shot. Rather than talk me out of it, he offered solid support throughout with his advice and presence.

Wander 🌿

If there are two things I love, it's woodland and the night sky. I feel in my element walking through the woods at night, especially when I'm unfamiliar with the route or wandering off-track to see where it leads.

Detour ⤵️

The original idea was Barafundle Bay, but a change of plan led me on a wander through the woods to the Eight Arch Bridge in Stackpole. Beneath the Milky Way, two shooting stars added a little magic to the detour.

Elegug Stacks 🌊

A warm, clear night beneath the Milky Way at the Elegug Stacks. With only the sea, stars and good company, it was the perfect way to end a wonderful birthday.
