With a forecast of an overcast sky (my conditions of choice for woodland photography) with potential for rain (which may have had me abandoning the walk/shoot), I decided to stay super local and headed to Kennall Vale Woods.

I've been here quite a few times before, so I set out determined to find new angles and compositions I haven't shoot before. This was probably made easier by the winter storms which I think must have brought down some trees...

The sunrises are getting too early for me now. But rather than give up, I'm just getting out as early as I can.

Today, I decided to stay local - allowing me to get to location earlier to catch the morning light with fewer people around.

I left my big professional camera at home and used my stealthy Ricoh GR3x pocket camera. In fact, it was a walk around here a year ago that inspired me to buy the camera!

📍 Rosudgeon, Penzance, Cornwall

Got the long lens out at my Dad's house last Sunday. It was a little too windy really. I grabbed shots of a few different types of garden birds, but this shot of a Chaffinch was the only one sharp enough and composed well enough to share...

With a cloudy morning forecast, I chose to knock a sunrise shoot on the head and have an extra hour in bed. I had decided on a morning shooting bluebell woodland scenes at Tehidy under cloudy skies. But, on the drive there, the sun appeared... so I changed my mind and headed for the oddly named "Ale & Cakes Mine" at United Downs instead!

Thomas Heaton Photography shoots in Cornwall. He visits Trebarwith - a place I've visited a couple times, but haven't bagged a decent shot myself.

I always avoid photographing Cornwall. As a landscape photographer, this location should be a paradise. But, I am put off my bad press & long distances. Now,...

With high winds and a chance of rain yesterday, I headed out anyway. I normally shoot Godrevy Lighthouse from closer at higher tide, so I hoped to get something different from my other visits.

I first tried to make use of long grasses blowing in the wind on the cliff top with a slightly long exposure. Most of my of my attempts failed due to camera shake. I could have taken a faster exposures to blend in, but while being battered by the weather myself I didn't think to at the time.

Next, I walked down onto the beach and found some interestingly shaped rocks to frame the lighthouse. I was much more sheltered here and could more leisurely compose my shot. I fired off dozens of exposures - trying to catch a seagull or two in the top left quarter of the sky.
