Felicity Butcher - 'Louisa' (Elaine's daughter) from 'When The Magnolias Bloom'

‘When The Magnolias Bloom' is a project about Felicity's late Great Aunt Elaine. This project portrays grief, and its process through quiet, reflective, and thoughtful moments in collaboration with her family.
Whilst there is still a gentle sadness echoed in the work, the tender inclusion of memories shared with each other intends to act as an appreciation for a life well-lived.

Ellie Cooper - Crocheted ‘Van Gogh, 1889. Sunflowers’

‘The World in Wool: Still Life’ depicts still life paintings that have been recreated through crochet.

Beginning as an exploration into art history, this project shows how playfulness can be incorporated into a genre that is often perceived as pretentious. The addition of crochet demonstrates the importance of craft within the arts.

Long shutter speeds are used to blend in ambient light from the sky after the sharp imprint of the subject has been captured, allowing me to incorporate other tones via movement of the camera.

The idea for the process originally came from a mistake during a portrait shoot - I had accidentally set my external flash to its highest setting, causing the model to be completely blown out in the image. It became my favourite image from the shoot, inspiring me to develop the technique and apply it to my landscape photography.
