Orion at Queen's View

One of many beautiful and expansive viewpoints in Scotland is Queen's View over looking Loch Tummel. The view is named after Queen Isabella, the first wife of Robert the Bruce, who lived in the 14th century. When Queen Victoria took tea at the viewpoint in 1866 during one of her lavish Scottish Highland tours, she explained that it was named after her.

In this picture we can see the Orion, and Ta**us constellations with the little blue star cluster on the right, Pleiades.

The Plough and Auroral Glow over Scotland

Here is one from the tail end of last season, when the water level was so low, I could make a picture not usually possible. Notice the individual star colour of the plough? Most of the stars in this asterism are blue, however the white-orange like star at the handle (called Dubhe) lies furthest from Earth at 124 light years. It may seem like these stars appear at similar distance when we observe them from Earth, however the stars in the plough range from 78 to 124 light years in distance from our planet.

The Lobster Claw, Bubble Nebula and M52

In the constellation of Cassiopeia, a little patch of sky reveals glorious colour - in the form of the most abundant element in the universe. Hydrogen. This emits a reddish-pink colour, and with enough time on target, reveals a window into space. The lobster claw is quite easy to see, left.

Faint Milky Way over Balvaird Castle, Scotland

I see so many shots of the milky way core all year round all over the internet, and I can tell you, the core is easy, relatively speaking. This ultra faint section of the milky way has always interested me more (luckily, as I have a limited view of the core from the latitudes of Scotland). This is only about 15 minutes of exposure time (albeit with an ultra fast lens on a star tracker), which allowed me to be able to really show the faint colour, detail and structure found overhead in this early spring milky way picture. On the left we can see the mighty Perseus constellation ('Y' shape) with the pink California Nebula. On the right we see Cassiopeia (the 'W' shaped collection of stars). This image is the culmination of hours of work both in planning, ex*****on and processing, please enjoy.

Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) Over Scotland

Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is a non-periodic comet that recently visited the inner solar system in late 2025. It reached its closest point to Earth (0.60 AU) on October 21 and made its closest approach to the Sun on November 8, 2025. This particular image took me all night, as I tracked the comet over the night sky, taking about one hundred images of it and stacking them all together to show it's magnificent tail.

From a grueling hike on a x2 munro circuit; this is the first mountain summit. As conditions changed I took this panoramic picture of the weather pulling in from the right hand side causing a complete whiteout and loss of vision. It can be scary up these places at times.

Trotternish Ridge from the Quiraing

I made this picture in early spring using a 20 year old camera which gives a very unique colour to the pictures, the camera in question being the 'Nikon D200'. The Quiraing on the Isle of Skye is one of my most favourite places I have ever visited by day or night. I still remember the first time I saw it with my own eyes; it left such an indescribable impression on me that I constantly yearn to do the long drive to see it time and time again. Other countries have higher peaks, and larger "lakes", however Scotland has something truly unique that nowhere else can match.
