On the night of 31 January to 1 February 1953, a very heavy storm raged on the North Sea, which combined with high tides and spring tides to cause a catastrophe in the south-western part of the Netherlands. Dozens of d***s breached, causing 1836 people to drown.
The pictures above show a house where own family members drowned. The house stood in the breach and was partially, and later completely, washed away as a result.
Today, 70 years later, I commemorate this night where the force of nature knew no bounds.
