Excited to share my thoughts on what photography projects I plan to embark on in 2026! 🎥🌄 After a busy year of shooting in 2023, I'm ready to dive back into my passion. Join me on this creative journey! Learn more: https://wix.to/WLA30Tp

In my local camera club newsletter, just before Christmas, we were asked to consider the question 'What photography exploits do you plan to pursue in 2026? Well, I have been away from regular photography activities and the camera club for most of the past two years, and this question has been gettin...

Reflecting on my year behind the lens. 📸✨

2025 was a year of evolving styles and rediscovering old loves. I kicked things off immersed in the movement and energy of dance photography, capturing the grace of the stage. 🩰

As the weather warmed up, I took a step back to breathe in the outdoors. The summer months were all about recapturing my love for a classic landscape scene and the raw, unscripted moments of street photography. 🏙️🌲

To round out the year, I’ve spent the last few months back in the studio. It’s been a blast experimenting with everything from still life to child portraits and pushing my creative boundaries with vibrant colored lighting. 🌈🔦

Here are 30 of my favourite frames that define my 2025. I can’t wait to see what projects 2026 has in store!

I strive to do more than take pictures with my photography; I aim to also create art. I've participated in numerous photoshoots where a set was designed, and models were styled according to a specific theme, allowing me and others to photograph them. Typically, I arrive, take pictures, and then leave. However, last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a tutorial day that taught me how to plan and execute the entire process myself. This included everything from the initial planning of the set, lighting, and costumes to setting up the studio, directing the models, capturing the shots, and then creatively editing and post-processing the images.

I want to extend my gratitude to Stephanie for her inspiration and creative input, as well as for doing makeup and styling. I also want to thank Steve for his assistance with the lighting setup and design, and to my two models, Eloise and Victoria, for their patience and willingness to pose and re-pose while I worked to capture the shots I envisioned. I learned a lot and now want to do more creative shoots like this once I get my own home studio space completed (very soon now!) - I then need to come up with some ideas and have a few willing people to model for me.

Here are two images on the broad theme of the Ice Queen I created last weekend and edited today.

I am pleased to announce that one of my portrait images has been accepted into this year's YPU (Yorkshire Photographic Union) Annual Exhibition.
The piece, titled "An Afternoon with Austin," was taken during a studio photographic workshop in Pontefract and is part of a series I developed with a "Fine Art" theme.
I want to express my gratitude to everyone involved in the workshops and those afterwards who offered insightful feedback and encouragement. Your support has been instrumental in helping me refine this image to a standard that merits inclusion in the exhibition.

A few days ago, I attended a workshop at the studio in Pontefract, where I had the opportunity to practice product photography. Their expert, Steve Howdle, led the workshop, and special guest Roy Wooding, an experienced commercial products photographer, talked about his work and experience, demonstrating several techniques to achieve fantastic product images.
We delved into the art of lighting and reflection, capturing the beauty of glass objects. We embraced the magic of rim lighting around products and used coloured gels to infuse our images with mood and emotion.
I invested considerable time in moving and adjusting setups during this session, centring around learning and experimentation rather than simply aiming for immediate images. So, while my photo count from the session may not be high, the insights I gained were incredibly valuable. It has inspired me to delve deeper into this in my small studio space at home in the coming months. A couple of the images showcased here reveal the behind-the-scenes setups of the shoots.

I participate in an online Academy photo development session every third Wednesday of the month. This valuable opportunity allows me to receive constructive critiques on my images. I submitted seven pictures this month and found the feedback particularly enlightening. It helped me identify ways to enhance my lighting and refine my post-production editing techniques. This experience has contributed significantly to my growth as a photographer!
Each month, a panel of judges chooses remarkable images for the esteemed 'Xenon Award'. This month, only three images stood out from many submissions; I am proud that one was mine. I captured my portrait of Izzy during a workshop at the Pontefract Studios of Wild Berry Designer Images.

This is my first blog post in over a year, and I'm ready to dive back in. I established this blog to share my insights and ideas on photography, and today, I will address a crucial topic: the dual role of social media as both a friend and an enemy to my creative ambitions in photography. It's time to confront how it impacts my work and goals.

It's been a year since my last blog post, as I've been fully engaged in our whole-house renovation project throughout 2024. This shift in focus has prompted me to reevaluate my previous plans for last year. Spending so much time online while working with the builders has highlighted my need to adopt...

I am participating in a year-long journey that empowers me to refine my photography and post-production skills, learn from industry experts, and gain recognition for my work. After beginning to submit images for critique last year, I am diligently applying the feedback I receive to elevate my future submissions.

This year, I am entering a few photos each month into the Photography Academy Xenon Awards, hoping that some may be recognised throughout the year. The process of learning and improving is what drives me. So it was a moment of pure pride and happiness to discover during the online session on Wednesday night, where winning images for January were announced, that two of my pictures were among the seven selected winners.
